Just a point, everyone seems to be assuming he means denting it while fitting the tyre. I assumed he meant if you hit a pot hole, that the tyre was taller (albeit by a few mm) and thus had more chance of absorbing the bump before it hit the rim. I'm not sure it'll make a lot of difference but thought we should consider this.

Peace!

I actually assumed he meant pot holes too ... at the end of the day regardless of if it has much actual difference when you hit a MASSIVE pot-hole (why did you do that anyway ), is that really a reason/selling point to buy a 70 section tyre?!!?

I think we all agree that the guy was just fobbing him off with some BS ... and the real reason was more underhanded than that (like he gets them cheaper).

You can fit a 120/70 by dropping the bike about 14mm down the forks. This keeps the angle of the bike and the rake exactly the same, so you have the same handling, but you have the choice of tyre.

I presume this is based on the premise that the diameter of the wheel has a 28mm difference in the 70 section in comparison to the 60 section.

Quick bit of maths.

70% of 120 is 84mm
60% of 120 is 72mm which is a difference of 12mm (24mm overall diameter increase).

So the drop should be 12mm if you're going to do it at all.

Semantics, I know

As stated, I never found the need.

Chers,
Carl
