So it`s a fuel injecter model then .... hmmmm , if it was carbs I was gonna suggest having them checked out for any perished Diaphragms and such like .

Thanks Badger,
I'm trying to source the problem by way of elimination. 1. Checked for leaks. 2. Redex to (hopefully) clean the injectors. 3. Check for incorrect fuelling. 1,000,000. Get a Stealership to diagnose. |

I don't think there's anything wrong with my bike only doing 70/80 miles to a tankfull, it's simply down to the way I'm riding it. It's only been on the road for a few weeks and I haven't been near a dual carriageway or any sort of "sensible" roads. I built the bike for rallying so all I've done with it is test it on the roads I'll be competing on, single track twisty lanes. Incidentally I've also destroyed two rear tyres....in 450 miles. This is going to be one good bike.

It's an SV650 K5. The Rally I compete in is a special stage event, held in Belgium every year (this year will be my 16th event). Basically there is a route of approximately 50/60 miles and around that route will be a series of special stages, each stage being between 3 and 5 miles long. Each competitor leaves at minute intervals arriving at the start of a special at their designated time. The special is closed road, which you then ride as fast as possible, before continuing on the next road section to the start of the next special. You go round several times so you do get to learn the specials quite well. Winner is the person with the fastest special times all added up, plus any penalties incurred for incorrect time keeping on the road sections.
Simple really. |

I've had the light come on at 85 and 165 miles. It's so dependant on your riding style. Last weekend I found myself on the solid light (pointy), and drove 8 miles to the fuel station super carefully only to put 15.5l in.

I get 140-150 miles before the light starts flashing and I haven't left it more than 10 miles beyond that for a fill up.
I really hate to admit this but I did a bit of a mnemonic graph calculator in MS Excel: miles along one axis and litres up the other. I've plotted the curves for 40, 45, 50 and 55 mpg (it's all converted 'cos I prefer imperial measures ...). Anyway I just glance at the number of litres I've put in, glance at the number of miles I've done and the nearest curve to this point gives me the fuel consumption. I'm pretty steady on 50mpg. The lowest I've had has been 40-ish mpg. Actually, as I read this I'm feeling like an obsessive compulsive with too much time on my hands ... |
