No, I don't rage the bike at all - that's what seems to be the problem. As previously posted, I'm getting 69/70 miles per full tank, and used to get around 120 in Summer last year.

My last fill up went to a whooping 82 miles to a full tank. I think the Redex has helped achieve this.

A very baffled, and jealous, Mr Chin here!!!

There is defo something wrong with the bike then. What year and what mileage is on it? Do you use a lot of oil?

Thanks for the reply ejohnh.

K3 (2003) with 11,500 miles on the clock. I just done the oil filter, air filter, new oil and plugs service.

Prior to changing the oil - it never dropped, i.e. was always between F and L, and never needed topping up.

I just thought that the weather affected the mpg, as it did to my idle tick over.

Maybe your ECU is mismanaging the mix?

Coolant temp sensor giving false low cuasing it to put the auto enrichment on IMO

What does the exhaust smell like?

Oh yeah if you're doing v short trips it'll drink a bit

Cheers Yorkie_Chris.

I'll give that a check on the multi meter.

Exhaust smells like stainless! Joke, it's running a bit rich since putting the new exhaust on - a bit of black soot around outlet and seriously big bangs from the pair system on decel, with some nice flames to match. I do a daily 20 mile journey - to and from work. The bike was doing around 120 miles per full tank in Summer. Only getting 70 miles a full tank at the moment, which is seriously begining to hurt my wallet.

I am also having similar problems to Mr Chin (85 miles cost me ?15 at last fill up). I also have black soot on inside of exhaust which comes off on my finger if i rub inside of exhaust hole/baffle.

The bike is a k5s with 24k miles, which I actually only bought 2 weeks ago :/ not very happy with fuel economy especially as I haven't been doing anything stupid on it.

I'm convinced it is running rich as I can smell petrol a lot of the time, especially at startup, but I had a look at the air filter and it seems fine (looks pretty new actually). Everything on the bike seems in pretty good condition but this fuel economy is terrible. I have some redex to try, apart from that are there any diagnosis I can do at home to figure out why its running rich?

cheers
