Just to let you know so far my k8 naked is doing between 45-58mpg, its only dropped to 45 cause of my new exhaust which means im either workin the engine hard or just blipping the throttle all the time whilst waiting at traffic lights!!

Does anyone elses light seem to not make sense, my manual says 4ltrs flashing when its at the last 2ltrs it goes solid. Had the light stay on solid once and then put about 13ltrs in. Also my light seems to flash for quite a while when i 1st start my bike up if the tanks less than half empty. Im thinking the fuel level sensor isnt very accurate

Well since the dealer dropped the oil to the right level I`ve been getting 120 plus before the light comes on .

So I guess oil level has a big impact Badger? not sure it would explain the sooty exhaust but is something to go on..
this and the front suspension bottoming out (or klonking or something) on potholes are the worst thing about htis bike :s |

With too much oil then it gets flung around much more, not good for the oil, and also lots of drag on parts from this. Saps power and heats the oil more than normal.

Firstly, let me apologise for bringing up an old post, but the contents will seem relevant.
I am still only getting 80 miles to a full tank (please don't post up what mpg you are getting as this will only make me jealous (furious, I mean), and infuriate other .org members too!!). I have recently changed the plugs, done the oil and air filter changes, and tried Redex to clean the injectors. Yesterday I carried out the dealer mode test. -c00 was shown on the dash, which according to Haynes means everythings is A okay. I think I probably would have liked an error code come up so that I can finally diagnose the low fuelling problems I'm experiencing. There's no leaks (that I can find). Has anyone tried the high octane stuff that you put into the tank (like Redex), which is meant to help give more mpg, and does this work? Ripping my hair out now (and I'm bald already??)!!! Anyway, thanks for listening - I'm phoning the Samaritans and Talk-to-Frank now.... Chin |

I went to local bike shop and asked a few guys there about this. They reckoned that a good idea if nothing else works is to get it on the yoshi box they have (£40 to you squire) and sort the mixture settings out.
I was also horribly scared off redex (pretty harsh stuff apparently) but pointed towards Worx/Works 4 stroke additive to sort out fuel injected bikes. I've been doing a few motorway miles and will let you know how I get on with fuel econ compared to town riding.. |

Thanks for the reply rossinio
When there said a Yoshi box, did they mean a dyno? I'm so fed up right now that the 'harsh stuff' is the only way to go, as long as I get to sort out my low mpg. I got an extra 10 miles out of a full tank when I used the Redex. Might be coinsidence, but I did the exact same journeys to and from work, and rode the same way, i.e. not trashing the cr@p out of the bike, which I rarely do anyway (value my life more than getting anywhere more quicker than on a bike). Hopefully, with the both of us working on trying to diagnose this, we'll have it sorted soon. I'm going to try out the high octane stuff, and will also update you. Chin |

For the first time ever I checked the fuel consumption of my bike the other day. After fairly fast (100+) motorway riding and some very fast A-road thrashing I was getting 42mpg from my K5S with no airbox snorkel and a Scorpion race can. Bearing in mind I was carrying some quite heavily loaded Oxford throwovers as well, I didn't think that was too bad.
Just think ourselves lucky, my daughter uses her 32,000 mile GSXR600 K6 daily to travel all around the W. Mids - the best average she's ever worked out was 34 mpg, but she does cane the living crap out of it on open roads. |
