I get around 135 miles before the fuel light comes on. I usually fill up then which costs around £9 but guess if I left the reserve run lower I would get around 150-160 miles out of the tank. Fuel light is static on my K3 bike.

My normal consumption is 140 between refills. I normally fill up with 12-13l
which works out around 50mpg I commute to work 16.5 miles, 30 mins, 1st 15 min in stop/start traffic (30 or less), last 15 down an A road at 50+ (still in traffic though). K6650S |

So long as you can (and always do) fill the tank each time then recording the mileage and amount you put in gives the most accurate overview of fuel usage, just stick that into a spreadsheet or something of that nature to save you working it out each time and you can track progress as you go.
my personal best MPG was 62.2 but even my worst is only 50.9 8.6 pence per mile average (fuel only of course) so far I've only had 200 miles in between fuelling once but that's only due to fear of running out kicking in early ![]() Sad but true: Total spent on petrol since 08/01/08 = £306 but only £92.13 of that is actually petrol, the rest is the tax ![]() damn you Yorkie_chris, you have given me another stat to work out now, I wish I wasn't so ridiculously curious about such things ![]() |

Nah what you really want to do is fit a datalogging cylinder pressure sensor, then you can work out Indicated Power and mechanical efficiency.

Or even brake specific fuel consumption at cruise, indicated specific fuel consumption... mechanical power loss...

I have just bought a Sv, my last big bike was a firestorm........... what a difference. the firestorm would only do about 85 miles to a tank. riding steady i have got 130 miles on the clock and still no warning light so very pleased

This is getting very boring.....but there is just a chance I will need to take my bike somewhere sensible in a couple of weeks and if i do I'll be very good and see if I can get more than 80 miles before having to fill up. It will at least stop me worrying to much about where all the fuel is going...maybe!
