Ok guys, sorry to dredge up an old thread but thought you might like to know that I think I may have fixed my mpg problems, caused by a previous owner..
After trying redex and 4 stroke additive I took it back to the dealer and said theres something not right with this, it needs to be looked at under warranty. He said there was nothing wrong, he's sold loads of bikes etc etc but as a favour to me he would take it to the suzuki place where he got the MOT done. WTF, turns out previous owner had set it to "ice" mode or something? Apparently there are 3 fueling modes, and it was set to the maximum fuel one, like having the choke out all the time from what I can tell. The suzuki guy noticed there was something wrong with the bike on a test ride but until they ran a diagnostic they didn't know what it was. Now the bike is way way smoother, no really nasty lumps at low speed in high gears, and from what I can tell the power delivery is smoother across the rev range. I haven't had chance to take it on the motorway yet or to drain the fuel and fill up again etc to test fuel economy but I expect it will be better. I'd never have thought about testing the fueling mode, guess the previous owner thought it would make the bike faster.. Here's a picture of the bike anyway, threads are always more interesting with pictures ![]() ![]() This picture is when I got the bike, it now has r&g fairing protectors and bar end protectors and those cheesy stickers on the swingarm are gone! I get around 150/160 miles before the light goes on - works out around 60 odd mpg...

More likely a loose/knackered water temp sensor/connector making it go onto the auto-enrichment.

Very interesting.. It seems to be getting better mpg now but still not that great, gets about 45mpg on long journeys and about 40mpg around town. Any idea how I can check at home if its on auto enrichment or how to test water temp sensor? |

Does it smell of petrol at the exhaust when warmed up? Are the plugs black?
You should get more than 40mpg

Haven't checked the plugs, doesnt smell when warmed up although used to a lot when starting up. I thought it was running rich but since it went back to dealer seems to be running better. Bike seems to be a lot smoother after snorklectomy if that helps..
