Default Bikes in bus lanes - GOOD NEWS!

Apparently motorcycles will be allowed to use bus lanes in London from 5th Jan 2009, for an 18 month trial.

The London Cycling Campaign is not happy. F*&^ them.

Update: BBC article

Be interesting to know what people who actually cycle in London regularly think. Would have thought the biggest threat to cyclists in bus lanes would be buses and the odd lemming.... still?

How is it worse for cyclists in bus lanes , when theres bikes, taxis & the odd bus, than the ordinary evryday bit of road where you have all the above, + 40ft articulated lorries, white van man, + every car ?????

Yeah we can use all buslanes in the city and some bus gates. It's awesome, although does increase your loathing of cyclists and buses a bit though over time. Also watch out for a common accident round here; van's letting people in on your right so you can't see it happening. Just watch for gaps in the traffic near side roads etc. Also people jumping in the buslane without looking properly when the car infront suddenly decides to turn right is 'annoying'.

Had a stupid cyclist this morning decide to swerve in my way as we came to stop at the lights. No reason for it, nothing blocking his way or on the ground ahead...just cos he wanted to be on the other bit of the lane.

But did he even bother to look over his shoulder? Did he fek!
Did he appolgise for making me swerve violently at the last min to avoid hitting him? Did he fek!
Did he say "whats your problem?" when i gave him a nasty look? Hell yeh!
Did he fill his pants and appologise when he realised the biker behind him was also shouting and swearing at him and threatening to punch his lights out? Hell yeh he did!!!

Point is tho that this type of arrogant cyclist is the tpe who takes no responsibility for his own safety...but will then go and sign petitions saying that motorbikes in bus lanes are dangerous

This is the secret we were told at the bikesafe day a few weeks back.

I'll be a bit nervous to start with regarding cars wanting to jump in and cross the solid (extra thick) white line. At least we'll have the law on our side if that happens resulting in an off. So will be legally be allowed to travel at the speed limit within these lanes even if the rest of the road is at a stand still?

yup.. i think push bike cyclists are the biggest bunch of arrogant b@stards on the roads in the uk.. they have no regards for other road users, pedestrians, traffic lights. most of them even think the public footpaths are there for bikes... and what's with the fuk!n tossers that think they are in the tour de france every bleedin summer, who think its ok to cycle in groups riding 3 abreast.. and then they moan like feck when they get knocked over... dont get me wrong i'm all for people riding push bikes as long as its done sensibil..

rant over ..

good news on the bus lanes though....

i love boris johnson

Anyway, the cyclist thing...well thre is a bloke who gets in my way sometimes, same bloke each time. I make a big noise, beep my horn (what good that does, its carp) and he dont move outta my way, i cant force past because I'll cause an accident and although i loath cyclists like that, i dont wanna be the one responsible for them going under a bus (they make the risk high enough themselves most of the time anyway)

damn cyclists.

Bikes in bus lanes are great, although i get a bit nervous when im in a pack, i always hang towards the back
