Thanks,

I thought I was gonna get the SV fashion police banging on about my givi topbox rack

It's a Givi screen not, sure which model though. I bought it off some guy in the WRC. It really cuts down the windblast at speed.

I`ve just got round to fitting my handguards. Did anyone find that the new longer screws in the kit were too long, for securing the bar ends?

Cheers

I have some on my curvy, didn't have to shave anything off, but then its a S not a N. I did find the bolts a bit long so had to cut them down a tad and re-thread them.

not sure if I should even be reviving this after so long, but... here goes...

I put the DL guards on my '08 SV650 naked, and had exactly that bolt problem. the bolt that comes in the kit is 140mm (there is an outer expander, a long spacer, and an inner expander to pass thru to reach the nut inside the DL bar end); it needs to be 80mm (original is 60mm plus extra 20mm spacer). there happens to be a Suzuki part number for precisely what you need: 09127-06014. expensive here in the colonies; not sure about the homeland...

i didn't realize you could rethread the long bolts - they have turned threads, which stand proud of the shank slightly, but i guess you can cut enough thread into the shank to work.

cheers,

Bolts are cheap, probably <15p for what you need.

thanks yorkie, but i'm not mechanically adept enough to know where to seek out the correct bolt, let alone correctly describe it to the 'bolt-man', once i found him. it has a countersunk, oval head with Phillips drive; the shank is only half threaded (not that this likely matters); and the threads are rolled (i.e., slightly 'proud' on the shank) rather than cut. [i noticed others have mentioned cutting extra threading onto the 140mm bolt and chopping the length down (which certainly was my first thought, before i noticed the threading was rolled, not cut), but that surely doesn't give very strong threads or a good fit to the nut. don't you risk stripping the threads and/or having the assembly come loose?]

so i just went with the Suzuki part that the dealership parts-man was able to dig out of an old envelope. time vs money, i suppose. turns out it's from an '88-'91 GSXR-750 bar end. the Ron Ayers microfiche prices it at US$3.44; i paid CDN$10.00 for a pair (roughly correct exchange)! the stock 60mm screw is priced at US$1.50; the 140mm DL650 screw is priced at US$1.69. don't ask me why the 80mm is so much more - perhaps just the rarity that comes with age, like a fine wine?

cheers,
