I think we're talking a few weeks, Sean. It'll be rough Leave it a bit longer, it'll improve over a month or two, but this stuff needs to be drunk young.

Patience isn't one of my qualities..

Spent a while looking for pear juice today, to no avail. Only some super expensive organic stuff.

ok chaps so is this shopping list right?

  • Demijohns or fermenting bin from wilkinsons (is a demijohn 4.5 litres?)
  • Yeast
  • Airlock
  • Milton or similar steriliser
  • 250g of sugar per 4.5 litres
  • 4.5 litres of random fruit juice. Pear, apple etc
  • Bottles
  • Hydrometer
Now is this right. Add juice, yeast and sugar to sterilised container, attach airlock and leave for 2 weeks?

Then siphon into bottles with 1 tsp per 330ml bottle for priming then leave for another week or so?

Anyone have any recommendations of ciders presses? Thinking of making cider from scratch in the autumn.

That's exactly what I've done. I haven't bottled any yet, mine is still fermenting. Be sure to rinse the DJ thoroughly as else the sterislising fluid will kill the yeast. You don't need Milton, it's £££, supermarket/Boots own label will do fine. I didn't bother with a hydrometer either. You will also need a funnel (sterilise it): I managed to tip a lot of apple juice down the sink, so Ihave slightly less than 4 litres but with the same amount of sugar. It'll go cloudy and it'll develop a froth. Looks good, it's bubbling away nicely

My airlock is bubbling like mad. Orded 42 bottles today from wilkinsons. Going to do mine in pint bottles as 500ml will be easier to fill than 330ml bottles. I did think of using wine bottles but that's perhaps not the best of ideas

I'm beginning to think I might have to do Perry the proper way.. Oh well, I'll enjoy it, just more arsing about
