it really does look brilliant. the SV is perfect for this sort of thing, with the large frame on show. I admire you for the effort you are capable of putting in this, i simply wouldn't be able to do it

I've used Hammerite on engines before, never had a problem, smoothrite though, not the hammered stuff. Again, spray available or hand-paint. Sort of "self-levels" too!

Trouble is, it can be a bit thick to apply and the trick is not to touch it after the first coat until it's dry.

Hope this is of some help!!
Just wondering, how does the hammerite cope with the heat, I have a tin of silver and a tin of black hammerite in the shed and a scabby looking engine so was thinking of knocking up a colour to match the engine and having a bash with that as I can only find black or silver engine enamel but my engine is grey.

I don't think watercooled engines 'need' heatproof paint, I've done engines really well in the wheel paint silver. The heat of watercooled barrels is pretty low compared to actual exhaust manifolds and pipes that the heat paint is designed for. You can touch the engine without 'removing skin' as long as it's not the exhaust usually (but don't count on that obviously)

Hammerite is good up to about 200 degrees so for the engine it would be fine, i didn't use it because its 2 thick to get a brush less finish but if you use thinners and thin the paint a little that would help alot. hope this helps.

Speaking of fumes, I'm off down the shed.

Balance has been restored to the force. I own a 115mm angle grinder again
And to top off the day, a mate dropped me off some scrap ends and TIG rods in 316 stainless

Mmmmm, low-level ozone and argon...
