Nope. Both my SVs have polished rims.
As Badger says they do get oxidation spots on them from time to time, so keeping them polished with something good will stop that.
I don't recommend laquering once polished(my personal taste and I can't remember if Liam did either). Defeats the object really, because once chipped, road muck and salt gets under it, and makes it look poop, so then you have to strip the laquer off again. Mine have never been laquered, and for three years have remained the same super shine

If it's any consolation - I'm still riding round with a blue can on a black bike, which isn't doing wonders for the new paint job.
