Well I know it is not the clutch cover, so the assumption was the generator..... and we know what assumption is the mother of.....

The engines are similar in that the RHS cover is over the primary drive, oil pump, water pump drive and clutch.

Generator/pickup is on the other side.


Personally I doubt the change in volume between hot and cold oil is significant.

People get fussed about this but it really doesn't matter. After the engine has been run it needs a short while to allow the oil to drain back the to sump, by which I mean a short while - one minute would be loads of time. Hot or cold as long as it's upright for a few seconds the level will be visible.

When you fill the engine with oil make sure you don't overfill it, that's the only time to be truly fussy about the level. Then as long as you swing the bike near upright and there's oil in the window it's OK.
