Useful checklist/reminders, all common sense but things can be forgotten in the excitement leading up to a track day.

Also remember to keep hydrated/fed, it's amazing what a track day can take out of you especially in this kind of heat, quite useful building site tip is to freeze some drink the night before, then it defrosts during the day keeping cool.
So for those of you camping not too many beers the night before

Saturday is prep day for me, back in the UK again next week with work, flying back to belgium just so I can bring my bike back to the UK for a trackday, twisted but it's the way the world works. Going to bring camera and helmet camera too. Anyone know if they're fine with this at Lydden? As there is no point lugging it across if I can't use it.

I can phone later on today and find out Tim, I've already called the nice woman twice this morning and she knows my name as I was making sure I was in the Novice group to be with you lovely peeps (not at all because I haven't done a track day for a year and never been to Lydd and quite frankly may find I'm not all that quick )

All of this means she can probably get a restraining order against me

Good thoughts about food and drink, hadn't thought that far ahead

Good tips, the crucial one is the Driving licence, no licence no ride!!

Also remember to take some cash, or your CC to buy petrol. You WILL need to fill up, at least once, maybe more. I suggest you fill the tank to the brim before arriving at the track.

I’d say 1 tank should last you about 3 sessions, mibbie 4 sessions if in the novice, so you might be ok until lunch?

There is nothing more annoying than a session being stopped because someone has run out of fuel!! It’s a long push to the petrol station too

Oh and another tip, if the weather is like it is now you will be sweating profusely, even if it is not you will be sweating profusely it might be worth bringing an AM and PM t-shirt. Or what I do is have 2 in the day, and swap them over after every session, this way you always have a dry top to put on.

just a quick question about tyres: my rear tyre is just about on the wear indicators on the centre of the tread (plenty of meat on the edges ). Do I replace it this weekend, or take it to the track next weekend and even it up a bit before replacement?

I would probably opt for getting as much as possible out of your old tyre. But you might want to get rid of your chicken strips for the life of your next tyre all in it's first week?

Tyre profile must be shagged, squared off. Prolly best to get a new one.

The squared-off-ishness can be felt, and probably isn't ideal for a trackday riding, so the replacement Viper Sport has been ordered from FWR, Kennington. £112 inc. fitting.

I was looking at getting a set of Avon Vipers £187 for the pair fitted though at FWR. Not cheep.

TSM, do you mean that the Avons aren't cheap, or that FWR aren't cheap? One of the guys at FWR has an SV with Viper Sports on it (and no chicken strips!) and recommended the 65 or 70 profile front. I have found them to be decent tyres although I haven't had the chance to push them as hard as I would like when cornering. Under braking they are superb, and when I first got them I ended up doing a stoppie to avoid a stray pedestrian before they had been scrubbed in at all.

New tyres are just awsome
I did a similar thing on a brand new set of Diablo Stradas in the wet, managed to stop way harder than with the old 207s. It's just the new tyre thing

That said I'll be doing the trackday on that same set of diablo stradas, only got 10,500 miles on them, they're still good
