Drz 400's all being well - budget for me is £1500 max as it'll be a 2nd bike for winter & greenlaning without the worry of rotting or smashing my lovely track tool. Thinking matt is around the same budget as he's saving money for arrival of baby biker owenski the 2nd

Next month to 6 weeks I reckon il be in a position to buy

+1000 to that!
2004 plate drz struggles to sell for less than 2k which I find totally shocking!
Pauli has his eye on those drz which tbh I wouldn't mind either, but I'm only a 5ft6 so struggled with the height an weight of it when I rode one in the canaries. Recon I'll be better suited getting the ktm exc 300 (4 stroke version) but again they're well out of budget.
4 stroke is critical and any thing less than a 300 i recon will resent me on the duel carriageways. ya see I'm hoping to get a set of supermoto wheels for what ever I get because 90% of the time it'll be used as a commuter. Then a not so quick pit stop for a wheel change and I've got my weekend toy.

Cont...
Then there are maintenance costs, I'd love a husky but parts cost more than the bike. Similar the ktm will require more attention than my misses which puts me back on the drz, for which parts cost peanuts and are very basic machines so require limited maintenance schedules compared to the others. The only ones I havnt considered which I should really is the Honda CRf they look stunning but I know nothing about them.

Deffo, im not so bothered about what it looks like, can play with it then. Been looking at DR 350, but even this and some other old bikes are price so high a few quid for and you get a newer bike. 4 stoke is a must for me too. Huskys, and KTMs are nice but agree with you for parts.

it will be my main winter ride. tho at this rate ill be in the car lol

Lol, I've got one big hurdle to get over first... Gotta sell the sv, keep getting ahead of myself and window shopping but that's just frustrating me even more.

I was lookin into the dr350s but they're basically the same price & would be suited more to greenlaning most of the time with lower weight & slightly less power. I'm planning on using a drz for winter road fun & also to dip my toe in green laning etc so could do with a bit more power for things like commuting..

£1500 seems quite reasonable for an early 2001-2003 machine with around 8000miles IMO? Easy enough to work on, cheap bits, only real cost would be a second set of wheels & dynojet kit for 3x3 mod

When you all have bikes we could do this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Motorcycle-Gre...91854230277549
or this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Enduro-Green-L...item1e5e842563

Get a b&b for the night.
Then Ralphs route tracker can remember where we go then go back on our own as its public land

Fantastic bike, but Google for the service & maintenance schedule for the CRF and you'll soon stop looking at them for Greenlaning. They are a competition bike that is designed to do most of it's miles on a trailer or in a van, then do a day of racing, then be transported back home and serviced before the next race.

They look good for 15 quid. My "route tracker" is Memory Map on a GPS enabled PDA. Creates a GPS track of exactly where you have been and plots it on the OS map for you to upload to your PC and save. Similarly you create routes on a PC and downlaod them to the PDA. It's basically an off-road sat nav that uses OS maps..

DR350 is a solid little bike, it's what Mondo Enduro all went round the world on. The Honda XR400 is a good bike too.

My XT600E is a common bike to find circumnavigating the globe too. It is heavy off road but I'm getting used to handling it now, so don't be put off by something like mine or Honda XR650, Suzuki DR650 and limit your choice of bikes.

Smaller green lane bikes are in demand and command a premium, but I paid 1500 quid for my 2002 XT600E with 8000 miles on the clock.

In Portugal this year I was riding with a friend who was on a 1980's Honda XLR500, but I'll tell you what, there was nowhere he couldn't go on it!
