Sorry to leap into the Madlaners thread - but its not worth having an EAR-laners one!

Went to my first TRF meeting last night as I know of no-one locally to ride with. Luckily I used to work with their "Rights of Way Officer" so know someone in the group quite well. After all what I had read on the internet I was surprised what a nice bunch of people they are - certainly none of the "stuffy non-welcoming clique" that I had read so much about on the internet.

Got my first ride with a couple of them next Wednesday night (my friend in the TRF is lending me all the armour I don't have too!) - so I will be busy converting the SM spec back to S spec this weekend - cant wait

BBC4 Tonight at 9pm

Tales from the National Parks

Season 1 Episode 2

The Peak District Richard Macer spends a year filming in the Peak District, where the increased use of off-road vehicles on the area's green lanes has angered many walkers, horse riders and residents of local villages, who believe drivers are ruining the area's natural beauty. He follows campaigners as they try to get the vehicles banned from their local lanes, and meets officials from the Peak District Park Authority who are trying to resolve the conflict

I am back! Most stoopid thing i ever did was sell my KTM, so I bought another.
I went out green laneing for the day on sunday gone with my next door neighbour and mate. Both of them have been riding off-road for years and have plenty of local knowledge and a lot more experience than me. They promised to break me in gently as im a still a novice at this green lane lark. Did they fook! They go at a fair pace and we covered the lot, large obstacles to get over, 18" deep mud trails, ruts deeper than the pegs and rocky downhill streams (which were shat scary and slippery as hell!). They also took me to a small hill climb which was a foot deep of mud and a few protruding rocks thrown in for good measure. I tumbled down the hill backwards several times without the bike. Took me 6 attempts to get up whilst they nearly wet themselves laughing! I was fooked after the climb, whilst having a rest they told me that it was part of an expert trial! Bastwads!

We left in the morning just after 10am and got back about 4.30pm. We stopped for bacon buttie lunchtime in Torrington but the rest of the day was all riding. Road riding time was about 45 mins in total between lanes, the rest was all muddy stuff. No wonder I was so knackered! next time we are going further south for some different lanes.

Heres a few pics of my muddy toy, Its an absolute beast and a complete 'Hybrid'. The thing spits flames from the akropovic even with the road baffle in. Its a was a '06 SXS factory bike, with full EXC light kit/loom etc and a EXC 6 speed box fitted. The frame has been modified to take the '08> sub-frame/plastics/tank and seat then powdercoated for bling. The sussies have been set up for my weight so its ready to race or trail!

I went over the bars twice and cross-rutted and high-sided a few times too! (which hurt like hell) hence the wonky hand-guard in the pics.

I still feel like I have been hit by a bus! Its good to be back though.

Heres what she looks like clean

Very, very nice.

Like Phil, I'd not have done some of the stuff you did today, not on an XT600 anyway.

C'mon guys, part of the fun was the challenge! I have honestly never felt so good (and knackered) at the end of a ride. I really felt like I had achieved something and cant wait to go back out. Normally if I go out I tend to go alone and just have a bimble on the easier lanes. Being with the guys I was more confident and felt safer on the more difficult stuff. The satisfaction hopping up a 18"/2ft rock smoothly is immense to say the least, by the end of the day i could hardly lift the bike and it isnt the heaviest of machines

I would defo not try any of those lanes on a XT, in fact the guy next door has been off-roading for 20-odd years and he sold his DRZ as it was too heavy for the fun stuff. He now owns a KDX200 which was surprisingly mental off-road! Good thing is all these lanes were within half hour ride home and we have a shared trailer for when we go places (Cornwall first, then Wales next year sometime)

anyone on here know any decent green lanes around the midlands area? i have an old DT125/175 (have both engines) and my dad as just got himself an XR400, we want to go green laning but cannot find anywhere that its a) legal to do so and b) hasnt been fenced off. we had a place near aldridge but it got fenced up and there was a place near the Collector road in birmingham but that has been made more secure and used for car boots.

thanks guys

Tom, are they road legal?

There is a few around, not big ones though.

Couple in redditch area, one in foleshill by meridan, one or two by quatt.

Northamptonshire is the best tbh, you'll have to come with me and ralph sometime.
