Latest update on the next Protests

Summary on the one for Saturday is that Westminster are doing free parking on a lot of their Car Parks all day on Saturday.

Plan is to go and park, 1 bike per space and so take up all the spaces.

Must have been difficult editing all the footage you have and choosing what bits to put in.
One question tho, right at the end when you're following Mr Teddy Bear-Sidecar (dunno his name but thats what i call him) the vid has lots of lines running across it. Was this due to a loose wire or is this how the camera acts in very low light conditions? Just curious, is all.

Thank you for submitting a formal objection against the City Council’s experimental motorcycle charging scheme.

The motorcycle charging scheme was implemented in August 2008 under experimental traffic orders. These gave the City Council the opportunity to gauge reaction and to review the arrangements for the scheme before either scrapping confirming or varying the orders. With effect from Monday 1st June 2009 the scheme will operate with the following variations:
· We will create an extra 500 dedicated spaces for motorcycles in our secure car parks, and all dedicated motorcycle parking spaces off-street will be free of charge.
· The daily charge to park within a dedicated motorcycle bay on-street will be reduced from £1.50 to £1.00.
· The charges for longer-term motorcycle permits, which offer a relatively cheaper and convenient alternative for regular visitors, will be reduced by approximately one-third.
· Residents’ permit holders will be able to park their motorcycle for free on dedicated motorcycle bays city-wide when displaying their residents’ permit.

Furthermore, we will continue with the following policies:
· We will continue to install security devices at dedicated motorcycle bays where appropriate and practicable.
· We will continue to cancel the first PCN issued to each motorcyclist for non-payment of the charge upon challenge.

In order to bring the charge reductions into force as quickly as possible, we will vary the current experimental traffic orders from 1st June 2009. At the same time we will consult on new traffic orders to make these improvements permanent. You will have three weeks from 11th June 2009 to give us your feedback on the proposed permanent orders, which (subject to consideration of the results of further consultation) are expected to come into force in mid-August.

We are currently also considering how to reinvest the income the scheme has generated, so as to benefit motorcyclists and other road users. To ensure we have a full and balanced view of opinions on this scheme we would of course welcome your thoughts.

You ask for feedback as to my thoughts on the scheme, quite simply, scrap the charging.

Parking has been free in all of London for years, and should be returned that way.

I dont see what value I get for my money if I pay for your scheme, as it is it has reduced
my visits into Westminster, and so has a negative effect on the businesses there.

For example, if I wish to go to the cinema, I used to park in Westminster and go to the
Leicster Square, or the Trocadero, then usually I would have something to eat in Chinatown.

Now, I head up to Camden where I can park for free, so it is businesses in that area that benefit.

This charge does more harm than good to the people who live and work in Westminster.

And why, oh why, am i not suprised that they have decided to implement the scheme as soon as possible.

I got a text from them sating that in response to our "feedback" that thay are reducing the daily fee to £1 from £1.50.

I think they have not understood what the NoTo crowd were after...

Once they get a charge in its only gonna go one way...up.

Hopefully other boroughs wont follow suit and Westminster will be seen for the money hungry gits they are and scrap it.
