I would definitely recommend learing to ride yourself. I am an average driver (same reversing problem even with sensors) and had no idea how to ride a bike but managed to pass my test.
I have an SV650s and I am 5ft 3 so got the bike lowered and seat cut out so now I can touch the floor! I also struggled a bit with the weight of the bike but you soon get used to it and I wouldn't worry about dropping the school's bikes as they are well used to it! ![]() |

I am a newbie (only passed in June) and I find the SV brilliant to ride. I find the power suits me as it is quite gentle so I don't just whizz off!

After buying my own house, passing my bike test is the 2nd best thing I've ever ever done. As somebody said to me once, never spend life regretting things you havent done, you're along time dead. I hate reading posts by girls saying "I'm to short", "The bikes to heavy", "I can't do it" etc etc, It really irritates me, theres ways round things if you are short, and the only person telling you that you can't do it is you. My other half is a little taller than you and she manages all 3 of her bikes with no problems at all, its all in the mind, if you tell yourself you cant do it you wont, if you tell yourself that you can you will.

I can imagine! I am still quite cautious but I'm sure in time I'll be whizzier!

go for it. I had been pillion for a few years, had even more years of a break and decided to learn. I went to riding school and did saturday on 125cc doing CBT. passed. Went back next day and did road work on 125cc ie learning about gears, life savers etc. The following weekend i went I was put onto ER 5 which is 500cc. I found it much easier to ride as you didnt have to rev it so much but it was heavier and higher. Im 5'5" but only 27" inside leg. Went b ack next day and was out on 500cc again. we spent most of day practising u turns, emergency stops and did the test route a few times. I fell off 17 times that day. Went back next day a nd sat test - failed for crossing lane on roundabout. waited 10 days sat it again and passed. went out next day a nd bought sv650s. had it for 5 years and loved it. now have a cagiva raptor 1000cc which is even better as its lower and I can reach the ground.
go for it and keep us updated with your progress |
