I've Been At It again!
Polishing, that is
 With the forks out for fitting the emulators it gave me a good chance to strip and polish the stanchions. Not as good a job as the professionals would do, I know..............but I don't think they look too bad. I do love doing metal polishing, I find it really satisfying and can quite happily spend hours on it. I polished the brake and gear levers too.

They are really shiny. I'm glad you like doing it so much 'cause it's going to be on ongoing chore to keep them looking like that.

Sorry to be thick but could someone point me in the right direction of the grade of wet and dry to strip 'em back with - then is it autosol from there?

When i done mine, i used Nitromors paint stripper, then 800 grit, then 1200 grit wet n dry, some meduim scoth brite, then yes autosol. However, a polishing kit would do a far better job with a drill after you had stripped the lacquer off.
