Default mucking around with calipers today.

i have been doing one or two rear calipers today

from this-

after being stripped of pins, pistons and bleed nipples left to soak in a basin of gunk for 24 hours

then a good buffing to get rid of the carp leaves them like this

next job is to get the dry hard white stuff the sits in the seal recess out with a pin, then once cleaned they go in the sink for a good soak and a brush with one of the wives pot brushes(mind and check its not the last one or you get your peas chapped)

once dryed get the air line fired up and blow out any last drops of water in the caliper, then its onto the repainting-from this

to this (first coat)

paints drying so i'll do a wee put back together update tomorrow.

rattle can mate-get a good finish as long as you only use first half of can then it starts spitting when level drops.

Lot of effort there Husky Nice one

Have you considered Hard Anodising? Not that I know a lot about it, but the Duke calipers appear to have that finish, inside and out, and I presume that's why they don't gunk up around the seals.

Have you found a source for the little O ring that goes between the two halves?

I like. . They look good as new. Step by step guide to stripping, rebuilding and bleeding would be ace. Has anyone done this yet?

The ridiculous thing is that folks think Brembo stuff's expensive, but a brand new rear caliper, with pads, is under 50 quid!

7th down on this list: http://www.jaysperformance.co.uk/brembo.html

Someone needs to design a mod that could use it instead. I think YC has got one on his Curvy.

Sorry for the derail Husky

never gave that a thought pete-all comes down to costs though-if the two allen key bolts need replaced its £7 for 2,few quid for new pins if needed, then seals etc, before you know it your £25 quid in parts alone -the O ring is a pain in the ass to get -you need to go for a different bike caliper seal kit that includes it but its the same kit as the sv.
i'm gonna be getting a mini oven to bake the paint dry in future.
I'm gonna do a set of front and rear calipers in dark gunmetal grey to match the wheels in the future once the bikes mot'd.

Update re putting back together will be done tonight.
