With insurance etc you have 7 days to provide proof if you don't have any papers with you. I have also heard of someone having 7 days to prove that their bike is 33bhp, but never heard of one being seized like this unless the rider was showing off or giving attitude at the time. Sounds kinda fishy to me too. On the other hand it could be the police testing the water since the law is unclear.

I take it then, after catching up from last nights posts, FB hasn't been back on yet??

I want to know the outcome.....

The police do take some flak, on many issues, but Fishtits has risen above it all and given some straight points of view....which is nice.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with one word of this. There is no legal requirement, whether it makes it easier or not for the OP is irrelevant. It would help if the officers involved had foillowed proceedure correctly and knew the law before acting improperly in this case.

I fail to see why this lad has to suffer being without his primary means of transport because some idiot copper (and I am not tarring all coppers with the same brush here) can't get his facts right and is acting the ****. I also fail to see why his senior officers haven't hauled him over the coals for this and returned the bike asap with an apology to FB and compenssation for the taxis and public transport he's been forced to use while they have had his bike for no good reason.

The coppers have screwed up, and I mean the initial two who pulled him, the one who tested the bike and every other copper involved in this case from roadside up to office complete with leather swivel-chair.

If I were the OP I'd have been on the phone to someone like White Dalton Solicitors at the earliest opportunity and the local police wouldn't have had a minute's peace from me until my bike had been returned with a personal apology from all concerned.

An MOT test certificate only shows that the bike was in a condition to pass the test at that time on that day. I've taken loads of bikes for MOT with wheels and tyres borrowed from another bike because the tyres would have failed, shock absorbers, exhaust cans etc and even one that had a complete set of yokes/front forks/wheel/tyre from another mate's because the bike being tested had a set that were horribly pitted and bent after an accident had nearly written it off.

The MOT technically gives a bike the right to be on the road for a year before it needs another safety inspection - in reality it's a bloody farce because a bike can be as safe as houses one day, and the next day the brake seals could fail and the shock spring could break rendering it lethal to ride.

Is there any compensation enough to compensate for using public transport?

I can see what he's saying though that the cert MIGHT make life easier, though it should not make any difference.
