Irrelevant! Assuming you mean the tyre was legal but fairly worn out when seized. That is irrelevant if it was still good for 500 miles and they've ruined it which apparently dyno runs do, then they should have put a spare tyre on it to dyno it, or they should replace it with a brand new tyre

Same for te exhaust, just because it had some damage that you were obviously happy to live with, doesn't mean you should have to put up with more damage. IMO

You written to tyre manufacturer?
The inspector will be under pressure to keep the cost down. If the tyre had 3mm of tread left and now it's damaged, then they should at least reimburse you half the cost of the tyre. If it was balt as a coot, then maybe they could give you 20 quid towards it as a goodwill gesture.

They won't pay more than the value of the goods damaged. If you put the damaged exhaust on ebay, what would you get for it? If you put a part worn tyre on ebay, what will you get for it? If an insurance company writes off a vehicle and the assessor notices it has bald tyres, then they will reduce the amount they offer in settlement accordingly. Why would you expect the police to behave any differently?

Whether you or I think it's "Irrelevant!" or not is by the by. We can debate it all day on the forum, but at the end of the day it's down to Flameboy and what end result he wants to achieve. If he wants to persue a complaint and fight a prosecution, fine, make the complaint and claim full value for everything. But if he just wants to get the matter settled in the next week or so and get the prosecution dropped (the police are holding over his head as blackmail IMO), then he has to negotiate for what he thinks is a realistic settlement. And only he can decide that, not us, our opinion doesn't make it the right course of action for him, and us having a big debate isn't going to help him make a decision about it, so calm yourself!

We'll just have to disagree.
As regards insurance in my vast experience of getting paid out, the insurance will either see a bald tyre - say that's illegal you're getting nothing, or if it's legal then they won't make any adjustment for how worn or damaged individual parts are, just a general allowance for overall condition.
Same should go for the Police, if they can't repair a tyre or exhaust back to how it was they should replace it with a similar one. You can't buy a 2nd hand tyre because you don't know if that's been dynoed & good luck finding a 2nd hand exhaust (system if the OP's is OEM) with no more damage on it. Or otherwise replace with new parts.

Take from someone who used to work as an assessor. I always charged for "Betterment". Be that a tyre, exhaust, corroded panels and pre accidental damage. If there was any way to reduce the total repair cost by getting the owner to contribute, I would take it.

The full story so far is contained within these 77 pages..... or are you just after a condensed version? The final installment might take a few days, even weeks, to arrive.
