Nobody likes to be regulated so I guess it's natural you'd want to knock those that do the regulating. On the other hand we all quite appreciate the relative order and safety that comes with that regulation. It's a fine balance and sometimes it goes wrong, but I don't think overall it's that bad, but hey, I'm bound to say that aren't I.

I didn't - it doesn't redeem a comment like that one.

ffs you've really got a sense of humour problem-my comment was tongue in cheek hence the smiley-if you don't like it and want to make a mountain out of a light hearted comment thats your problem -i don't give a monkeys what you think

Hi guys sorry for the silence

Still alive and not it chains, I've heard nothing back from the police since the inspector visited to check the damage on the bike... hopefully I'm in the clear

I'd just like to say another big thank you to everyone who supported and gave advise to me, was all really appreciated and has given me personally allot more knowledge on the situation and the best way to deal with the old law.

Of course I'll be letting you all know if anything does unfold and If they eventually do decide to imprison me, I'll be expecting a thunder of exhausts coming to my rescue

Once again cheers all!

Flame.

Hopefully in the clear? What do you mean? You have done nothing wrong.

Have they suitably compensated you for the damage yet?

As long as you're happy with the outcome mate, that's all that matters!

To implyment it simply state anyone who passes theres after a date is stuck on a 33bhp bike but if you passed your test before then you ride a restricted bike or would part confuse most police more than it is atm?

Chris, that is exactly what we have here. I can buy an SV650S or an SV650S-LAMS which is homologated as a restricted bike, but I cannot take the full power bike and make it a LAMS bike unless I am willing to jump through some extraordinary hoops with DMV. A LAMS bike could probably be reclassified as a full power bike (it is a change of CTPI insurance classification so must be done) without too much hassle. The restriction is on the police/DMV database and there is a big red R on the rego sticker and if a cop doesn't like something he can issue a rectification notice and send the bike to a DMV testing station where they can verify conformity.
None of it has been an impediment to the uptake of motorcycling in this country. It has exactly the opposite and like in the days of the old CB250, learner bikes hold their value remarkably well - more so than unrestricted bikes. Learner riders will often get their money back on a bike like the SV at the end of their restriction.

I appreciate the relative freedom that you guys have, but I do not believe that tightening of regulations in this area would be as detrimental as you would suggest.

EDIT: Wow! Here's me thinking this was a very fast moving current thread - rechecked the dates and I am responding to something over a month old.
