When it's set inaccurately, what essentially happens is that you open the throttle, and get x volume of fuel in the cylinders. By the time the TPS kicks in (at say 3k RPM - a common value for even new bikes), you will probably have the clutch out at least beyond biting point, and the TPS tells the ECU to add a little extra fuel. Heypresto the bike tries to lunge forward a little.
Incorrect.

As has been explained before, the Throttle Position Sensor, (unsurpisingly), senses the position of the throttle, the display in 'dealer mode' is a voltmeter, the throttle posistion is indexed as a voltage (I don't know, don't care and it doesn't matter what that voltage is), this voltage informs the FI system of the throttle position. It doesn't 'put more fuel in at 3000 rpm', injector duration is controlled by many factors of which throttle position is only one. New bikes are rarely wrongly set, however the initial wear on the components affecting the setting changes it, sometimes quite dramatically, early on in the life of the bike. Very generally speaking after the initial reset the setting doesn't change dramatically thereafter.

PS. We've been here before.

Why yes we have (hence my comment direct to you before ).

C'mon Mr Squid, are you really going to be that picky over wording? I did say I'd dumbed that post down.

Yes, there are factors that would reduce injector duration whilst throttle index voltage is raising, thereby counteracting the affect of the TPS, but... meh, this is getting old even for me.

I still have fond memories of the conversation we had about it at the AR.

HAHAH Thank u! Didn't realise there was that many people close by!

Where the TPS is concerned and is now set at 1450-1500 am I ok to leave it there?

It isn't gonna shot off, or jerky as soon as i find the bite and let the clutch out (slowly) ?????

Jeez woman!! Relax!!

Let the clutch out nice, slow & smooth, and it won't jerk you around. Promise*.

*I cannot be held accountable should that statement turn out to be fictitious owing to the fact I haven't seen/inspected the bike in the flesh, nor am I qualified to do so should the opportunity arrive.

Wording? No.

I can't stress this enough:

The TPS doesn't do anything magical, it simply tells of throttle position and is one and one only of the inputs to the FI system, the oft repeated 'puts more fuel in at whatever rpm' couldn't be less accurate.

No it wont, the problem here isnt a jerky throttle or a dodgy clutch, its you, go to a car park or somewhere and practice starting and stoppping till you can pull away gently and slowly. Remember you're in control of the bike not the other way around. Maybe take some cones or something with you to the carpark and mark out a pretend junction and practice riding up to it and stopping then pulling away again and keep doing it till you've mastered it, Might be easier to get your head round whats gonig on off the road then when you are on the road you'll have more time to work out whats going on around you which will make you a safer and smoother rider.

I've ridden half a dozen or so pointy SV's none of which have had a "jerky" throttle. Try as the others have said relaxing your grip on the bars because it sounds like your holding on to tight and making big changes in the throttle position rather than small continuous adjustments.

You'll get it eventually, you just need to practise, relax and stop over thinking what you are doing all the time.
