I'm not sure if this is a common problem but it might be worth giving your bike a check.
I noticed the front brake was binding a bit so I decided to take it apart. I expected to find a stuck piston but it turned out to be this pin which holds the caliper. ![]() The caliper holder pin had to be forced out of the caliper. this shot shows some corrosion that had built up. ![]() The rubber boot had been squeezed onto the pin. You can see that the boot has been deformed with some corrosion embedded in it. After cleaning off the crud I had to buy a new set of brake pads (over £40) as one them was worn right down. Worked in some ACF50 around both rubber boots afterwards. Last edited by OldBoy; 25-03-07 at 01:26 PM. |

I had a similar problem with my CBR's rear brake. The pin was seized on the caliper, in the end the caliper was milled off. The pin was just covered in rust and took a lot of effort to remove from the mounting bracket.
I don't think that it had been lubed from when it was last off and I would expect that would have caused the same problem on yours. When you refitted it did you grease the pin? |

Its quite a comon problem on both of the SV's. Its all about keeping them clean every couple of months.
Its not just about greasing the pin, you have to clean the crud out of the hole that it slides into. As for £40 for a set of pads!!! |

As the the bike gets used all year round it could have been caused by road salt. |

If you're greasing the bit between the rubber boot and the caliper I'd be using red rubber grease rather than ACF50 as it's likley to stay put a lot longer and is designed to sit next to rubber without affecting it at all.
