And someone, get ad53ggz a pint!
![]() One thing though, you haven't mentioned lifting the tank and cutting the tank hinge(?) Hmm... A black curvy with a stubby and a custom tail tidy, no haven't seen it... We need to organise a rideout! Last edited by dyzio; 04-07-08 at 10:13 AM. |

Cool - looks like the zx10 shock has the reservoir at 90 degrees to the top of the shock and not at 45 degrees like the 636 shock. This means that less stuff will need to be modified for it to fit as it will sit lower in the bottom of the battery box. Didn't know that...

Its only the GSX shocks that need the tank hinge cut.
The ZX shocks just need the battery box cut. |

Ok, first attempt has gone sort of wrong...
I tried to loosen the bolt on the bottom of the shock, didn't get the spanner on right so you know what happened. I've borrowed this pic, but this nut is little bit twisted (will give it another try at the weekend). ![]() At the second attempt, I've taken the rear wheel off, it gave better access but then I've noticed that I'm not turning just the nut only the whole bolt... So, attempt 3 will be at the weekend, with a mate. Any advice?? If all goes wrong, watch the "for sale" section for a zx shock :/ |

I had similar problems, so I took the whole triangle off so that I could wedge it and get some decent force behind it. But it still failed, so I bought another one off someone off the forum.
Its still the shed, I'll have another go one day and it might pop, but until then buying a replacement was much easier. Remember once you get it off, grease up all the bearings, work it good and hard into the rollers, lots of rubbish will come out, but over time it will give you nice grease back. |

Damn!!!
Didn't work... Just couldn't fit the shock between the mounting points... The battery box was cut enough, it seemed like the new shock is... too long ![]() Ach... what to do, what to do... Had to put the bike back together to get to work tomorrow... My next idea (apart from selling the damn thing) came to me just now, I've received my abba stand today morning and it came with the swing arm removal kit... Am I thinking in the right direction?? |

I take it then you didn't have the back end suspended in any way... The Abba stand with the swing arm kit is what I did, worked a charm, but then I had the swing arm off to, made it easier to get it setup the way I liked. Its a bugger to get off though as you need to remove the exhaust.

the bike was on the abba stand, wheel was off, as was the hugger,
I've managed to put the shock in line with the mounting points but it needed to be move back a bit to go into the upper mounting point, we (me+mate) couldn't move the shock because it was pushing against the swing arm. |
