hi have just replaced my speedo drive unit and now it reads twice the speed im actually doing i was following a car at 39mph mine was saying 80mph any ideas how this is happening or a fix for this please

is it a pointy or curvy?
I would check the connections are in properly and ok after that I have to say get it checked or use a speedo healer

Check the connections first
You completely remove the old drive? sounds like a daft question but a double the speed (actual vs indicated) reading would indicate that the sensor is getting double the amount of pulses it should be

You used wrong rotor... change it for one from an >04 bike... K5> has 8 pulses per rev instead of 4.

What you should defo do, is strap a camera to your bike where the speed is shown in shot, ride on a road with 40mph limit doing an indicated 80mph then post the vid on you tube. Could be amusing.
