From a full tank to fuel light flashing I got 155 miles; works out at 64MPG!

Rode from Colwyn Bay to Bolton all on A55/M56, the rest has been mainly town riding/commuting.

I was actually shocked at achieving 64MPG; mind you I'm on a restricted licence so revving the nuts off it achieves nothing.

I posted a similar question to this a week or so ago and was told to be patient when filling up and brim the tank to the max. I was fairly patient on my last fill up but only still managed to get 13 litres in and couldn't see any room for the other 4. With this in mind i filled up a petrol can and carried it with me enroute. On my way to work this morning the fuel light came on at around 135 miles, at present i am 14.3 miles into my reserve tank and still going.

I had a similar problem a while back - fuel light was coming on at 70-80 miles. The problem for me, was that a hose going to the temperature sensor (I think it was a temp sensor) was not connected. This was making the ECU think it was always cold thus pumping out more fuel (automatic choke?)

Hose number 22:

Hope this is the problem.

OK,

I know this sounds really nerdy but, here is my petrol log so far, the idea was to get a good idea of of fuel consumption over the first 2000 miles for comparing with later, - I generally stick to the speed limits and don't hammer the bike at all - as far as I'm concerned I'm still running it in - Now I'm about to give it an extra service, (a few extra services in the first 5-10K miles should keep things happy for many years.

Bike delivered 7th July 2011 New SV650S L0 (Prereg 2010) WIth a full? tank of fuel.
THe bike is as manufactured, no mods, nothing removed and unrestricted.

N.B. 4.546 litres per gallon.
Date Litres COst ODO
07/07/2011 17 ???? 0004 Tank almost full on delivery. (Actual initial fuel unknown).
10/07/2011 12.10 £16.21 0153.9 Top up to Full = 12.71 Mpl = 57.8 Mpg
15/07/2011 09.72 £13.21 0291.0 Top up to Full = 14.10 MpL = 64.1 MPG
24/07/2011 09.88 £13.43 0438.2 Top up to Full = 14.89 Mpl = 67.7 MPG
01/08/2011 11.96 £16.37 0627.0 TOP UP TO Full = 15.80 Mpl = 71.8 MPG
07/08/2011 11.95 £16.36 0814.1 Top up to Full = 15.65 MPL = 71.2 MPG
14/08/2011 12.23 £16.74 0997.4 Top up to Full = 14.98 MPL = 68.1 MPG
21/08/2011 10.71 £14.35 1159.6 Top up to Full = 15.14 MPL = 68.8 MPG
02/09/2011 09.00 £11.97 1295.8 Top up to full = 15.13 MPL = 68.8 MPG
03/09/2011 06.98 £09.28 1400.0 Top up to full = 14.92 MPL = 67.9 MPG
09/09/2011 13.14 £17.73 1600.2 Top up to full = 15.22 MPL = 69.2 MPG

Well - it might be of some use to someone

N. B I (usually)refuel as soon after the initial indication as possible, so as you can see there will be only some 5 litres left, at 15 miles per litre, the tank should run dry at around 15 x 17 = 255miles.

Have you checked your tyre pressures? - it could be you have a number of small problems..

If it's been sat for a year did it get some love when it went back on the road?

Fresh oil (my answer to everything)
Are the brakes free and not binding? That probably wouldn't help.
As above, tyre pressures.
Clutch adjusted? not slipping is it?

I fill up around 130 miles and that's generally before the light comes on.
