Thanks for the feedback everyone. I thought the 398mpg was too low considering how i'd been riding. I'll suss out how to check for faults and see if any codes are stored there and then i need to check balance on the TBs and the TPS is set up correctly. Something definitely doesn't feel or sound right at low revs...

Some good data on here,

http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/suzuki/sv650s

A lot may be American and their gallon is less than ours.

I tend to ride like a numpty, my SK6 makes me push it if I go beyond 135. As it did recently.

Thanks. Seems mine is on the low side for MPG, always a good indicator something isn't quite right.

"Old School" spark plug colour is a good indicator engine/ignition conditions. Can only really be checked during a ride or just after in SV case because of the plug locations.

It's covered in most workshop manuals and plenty of pics on'T' web

Yes, cheers for that. I've ordered a couple of new plugs for the hell of it. Might as well start afresh. Just put it into dealer mode and there are no codes stored. So will check TPS and TB balance at the weekend.

As I'm sure you've worked out by now, K3 fuel lights don't flash

Oh and something useful, I put in about 17.5 litres which is about 137 miles in London on my K3. I think that works out about the same as you.

edit: 17.5 pounds! what's that at about 120p per litre?

I'd be pushing at 17.5 litres as the tank is only 17...

that makes about 44mpg. But I've confused myself now so I'm giving up

I use spritmonitor.de to log all my fuelling and servicing costs etc. Thats what I stuck in on an empty tank. I reckon i got around 25 miles with the light on.

In my head I go by the vague observation (at least on mine) that the fuel light comes on when the tank is a quarter full.

So in my head when I first see the fuel light, and assuming similar consumption, I've got a third of the current mileage reading left in the tank before I'm pushing. I've never yet had to push (not from lack of fuel anyway) so something must be about right.

Yours does seem rather more thirsty than mine, and I know mine needs throttles balancing properly and a bunch of other maintenance which I might get round to in warmer weather. Perhaps you've broken it by using poncey fuel?
