on my k4 i've got a full Akrapovic, open filter with butterflys removed and a power commander mapped to suit ( by JHS Racing) HUGE differance, its absolutely brilliant now. when i had it serviced at local dealer, 3 of their mechanics took it for a test ride ( ) and said it was brilliant. get one fitted, but get it set up by someone who knows what they're doing!

The electronics on the PC's are renowned for their reliability and they can drop maps.

All the power commander in its std form (without any add ons) does is make a way for the fueling to be adjusted.

The teka and yoshi boxes are a very good way round not having a power commander as they allow you to adjust the fueling without having the expense of a PC and as the electronics on the std ECU are better than on a PC you get good reliability - i have yet to see a remapped ecu drop a map!.

One step up from this is the software we have just invested in. It can remap the std ecu fully and even map each cylinder individually!. So you get what a PC gives you but you also get individual maps and reliability for half the cost of a PC allowing you more cash to spend on other things.

We will be trialing this back to back with the PC's once our new dyno is installed to see what the differences in power are. Soon as this is done i shall report back with the findings!.

One company i know of (who we are working with) are devloping a box that maps the bike itself according to conditions etc..very clever!

There's been a lot of talk about Yoshi remaps dropping hte maps if disconnected from the battery for any length of time on SV Rider... New one by me but then I don't usually pay much attention to the injected model stuff.

I've never heard of carbs losing their maps

doubtful as the std ecu doesnt drop its map if the battery is off the bike for a while!. The battery doesnt have much to do with it!. You have been discussing with the yanks too long

To clear up the possability that the Yoshi remap can be dropped.

When you do a remap on the ECU, does it overwrite the original programming or does it just change some running paramiters that can be reset?

If it just changes some running params then there is the possability that the ECU resets to factory defaults, of it overwrites the prog then its not possable for it to be dropped.

'zactly my question... Just because the stock one doesn't do it doesn't mean that a modified one can't. Still, I don't have an opinion either way, but some of the more clued up guys over there spoke of it as a possibility and strongly recommended the Teka instead (whereas over here, everyone recommends the teka because it's better )

just checked with steve as he is more techie than me and he says that it burns the info into the ecu rarther than alter the parameters which means it wont drop the map if its unplugged. It can only be changed from those settings if you plug it into the software again and change it.

This is on the software we have though, not the yoshi or teka box remap!.

This is the problem, without full knowledge of how the other mods work it is hard asume.

But as you said, yours replaces the orignal prog, that way it should never be dropped, if it did, then it would be safe to asume that the box is faulty and the bike would not start because to prog had gone.

I do know from information about some mods done on Golfs, that the remps that could not be detected were additions to the program but hidden away, there were also maps that you could get on trial that would wipe themselfs off after so many hours.

This could all be in part that car ECUs are much more powerfull that bike ones. But still its a compilcated issue.

Mind you having done plenty also on the Teka and Yoshi box - 99% of the minitwin race bikes are setup this way - i have yet to hear of one that has dropped a map including my old bike which spent the winter in the garage without a battery!.

anyways best not to read too much into it. As long as your bike is well setup and running good then go out ride it and enjoy instead of worrying about the what ifs.!

hmmm.

im going to vote "yes, get it"

i cant really comment for the SV, but i have one on my CBR, and it really does improve the fuelling.

dont forget . . . the standard map is NEVER the best map to be running for your bike.

the manufactures of bikes cant make a perfect fuel map due to their hands being tied by emisssions and noise regs.

if you got the cash to splash . . . get one.

have a look on ebay, there is a bloke called barry.

send him a message asking for a power commander, and haggle with him. you could get quite a few pounds off one.
