oxford or klan
hi.. i'm toying with the idea of getting some heating for the old phalanges.. they are getting rather cold in this foul weather...
so what would you choose oxford hot grips? http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3...=30&pid=174&p= or klan lycra heated inner gloves? was also thinking of getting the socks... http://www.giali.com/mod/product/id_prd/98 or something else? (recommendations welcome) Last edited by Bibio; 23-10-08 at 04:40 PM. |

Re: oxford or klan
I plan on getting some of these gloves:
http://www.exo2.co.uk/exo2.html#stormshield I already have a decent pair of winter glove but I guess I get cold hands easily. And I do a lot of winter riding, or at least I will be, as I was last year. One benefit of heated gloves is at least you can't leave them on and drain the battery.. I'm not sure on this, but it seems like gerbing gloves have been discontinued and they now make exo2 gloves. Somebody will probably correct me though, so don't quote me |

Re: oxford or klan
I have Gerbing heated gloves.
Why go for heated gloves over grips? Your fingers are only going to get warm so long as your fingers are wrapped around the grips. The gloves will be warming your hands regardless of where they are. The wind will actually counter the heating effects of the grips. With the gloves this is not an issue. The grips heat the inside of your fingers not the outside. It's the outside of the fingers that are exposed to the cold. The heated gloves heat the back of the hands and the fingers all the way to the tips. Exactly where the heat is needed. If you wire up the grips to a perm live connection (ie directly to the battery) you risk the chance of draining the battery should you forget to turn the grips off. Not possible with the gloves. You walk away from the bike the gloves come with you. You can wire the gloves wiring directly to the battery with no problem. If the wiring fails in the grips you will need to buy new ones. If the wiring fails in the gloves you get a new pair for free as they are guaranteed for life. The heated gloves are guaranteed to fit every single bike you ever own. |

EDIT I'm quite sure I am completely wrong and you are right. I sure hope if mine go wrong it means they give me one of those new pairs of gloves. EDIT2 Seems Gerbing do still supply. Just that a UK Dealer no longer stocks them. Last edited by Stig; 23-10-08 at 05:11 PM. |

Re: oxford or klan
Fair enough. I saw somewhere they were discontinued now, I'll try and find it again.
Edit: From the Gerbing site, I clicked "Buy gerbing's heated clothing here", followed through to the gloves, which they no longer stock, but they have the new range of exo2 instead. Last edited by Sean_C; 23-10-08 at 05:09 PM. |

Re: oxford or klan
As someone that suffers from the cold very badly. (look up Raynaud's Syndrome) but also ride my bike throughout the winter regardless of the weather, it pays ten fold to dosh out the extra and get something that's going to do the job properly.
