That's not a fun job, I'm helping a mate on a big fencing job at the end of the month. Replacing a 16 panel fence with posts

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
A couple of days ago now but... 2 phone calls to HMRC. The first was half hour talking with someone and then directed to someone else, who, after being on hold for 39 minutes, said hello and then hung up on me immediately. So I called them again for the same half hour chat with someone, to be put on hold for 45 minutes and eventually through to someone who knew more about my issue. Then told that I can't get anything of the publicised help with loss of earnings for Covid 19 that the government have promised self employed people that we've waitied two months to be able to find out about. Zero, nothing, zilch! I wonder how many other people are in the same position. My brother is too.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
you will get nowt but a reduction in your tax at the end of the 6 months. if your lucky you might get a tax rebate. yes politicians say one thing then do it another way...
the Gov has no money. why do you think the BOE has dropped their interest rate to 0.1%? its so the Gov can borrow more money but still keep the same payments. pretty much every country in the world apart from ermm China is in the same boat and its sinking fast. |

But you know that when the huge income tax hype comes to cover all the employed people's furloughed wages I won't be exempt from that. I'll be paying for that too in the future. It will also be near impossible for me to self isolate / quarantine if I'm requested to do so in the future too as I know I'll have zero wages if I do. I think they promised it a while back to try and stop self employed / zero hours people continueing to go to work thinking they'd be ok and get something if they stayed home as requested. I know that's what I thought when we had two weeks quarantine right at the beginning.

Tbf if you were not paying their Furlough you'd be paying them in job seekers and universal credit because the jobs would be gone and the whole economy would have tanked so don't feel too hard done by I will be paying it back also.

Family quizzes. None of them know the etiquette of video calls and for some reason they insist on using Zoom, which is shoite! So glad the latest one is over and done with.

My son received a cheque for about 5 grand at the beginning of the month. It seems all his mates got them as well. The system worked for them. It seems it is all about your declared earnings within your last few tax returns that then decides how much you are entitled to.
