If I was a commercial airline and the goverment asked me to go get the Brits I would tell them to **** off, just as the gatwick flight that refused to leave did.

Let's look at te issues...

Libya have shot down a US plane in the past
Libya, allegedly under the order of gadaffiduck blew up the Lockerbie plane
Libya have jets that have flow to Malta for asylum as they were told to do bad stuff
Libya still have jets and other aircraft in the sky

Sod that...

Heard on the news late last night...'William Hague has denied that there has been any delay in rescuing UK citizens from chaos torn Libya. He has also announced that there is to be a review of evacuation policy and procedures'.
Laughable in my opinion. Successive politico's seem to have developed this habit of 'if we **** up, we'll disguise it with a review and then wave our arms around saying look, I've made it better.'

Also highly amusing how every political party/coalition gets into power promising a "bonfire of the quangos" and within months sets up dozens of reviews and independent oversight bodies to deflect the heat from ministers whom one would think had been elected to.... erm, review and oversee?

We had a staff meeting in the office last week relating to the 3years we've spent chasing work over there. Apparently we'd just spent another 60k (we dont have) in order to secure a bid for a massive shopping centre/hotel complex a £250million contract but thanks to our proposal (back hander) we were nailed on to be granted it...
Guess who's prob gonna be out of a job now as the company tries to recover its lost 60k

My favourite "you couldn't make it up" period of utterly bat-poo bonkers governance however has to be David Cameron currently touring the middle east with eight arms dealers in tow. You can just imagine the cabinet meeting - "So fellas, how we gonna sort this middle east crisis out?", "Hmm, how about.... Guns?", "Buuurrrrilliant! Yes! Any volatile situation is always calmed by selling even more guns to dicators!", "We'll call it a Middle East Tour to Promote Democracy!".

(my fave photo being Dave in Tahrir Square on 21st Feb with arms dealers in tow)

Hell, even the Daily Mail finds the whole thing more than a little bonkers - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...democracy.html

Yep, no merchant navy and even fewer available RN ships.

For an island nation its a very short sighted view not to have your own vessels.

Very fair point, however one would like to think that there would possibly be some RAF air support flying round just outside their airspace to escort them just in case? If not... then why not?

Yep, they can build barricades with all the bank note and fight the enemy off with their bowler hats and umbrellas

I would have said gold bars, but Gordon sold that off to Poundland
