i didn't have the balls to dye my hair permanent red, I have very dark blonde hair and I used nice&easy semi believe it or not. Used it straight on top with no other treatments or owt else. I got a beautiful rich red colour and if I could be bothered I could touch it up every week or so...but I couldn't be bothered to keep up with it and then it went to a weird ginger colour. Eventually I had blonde highlights in and now it's back to normal colour but took a while...

I was always told Schwarzkopf XXX or whatever it is was the best one...? I take it that was the one you tried though?

I prefer the pink streaks, its not a particularly great photo of the hair!

If the op wishes for a little pro advice, he can give me a few details via PM ie natural hair colour, has it been dyed previously?, that means any colour, as this can have a big bearing on the outcome, and what exact colour she has used in the attempt to dye bright red...and how often, I'll ask the hairdresser, will take a swift call.

Semi permanent shop bought dyes, will not go bright red, whatsover, I've tried! Red washes out as quick as went on.....on the wrong type of hair, dependant on how porous.
My friend, also my sons godmother, doesn't recommend the Schwartzkopf XXX for some reason.

Mine was really porous, stayed ginger for AGES. I could have got away with redying it every fortnight to keep the lush red it was but I was lazy

Yeah, I used to sorta see a girl who had similar looking hair (to the second pic), blonde with pink streaks and it got sexier as it grew out.

I just like the effort and thought that goes into having nice hair. Maybe it's not manly to think that way but there was some woman on some spy drama thing the other day with a Dido flip and I just thought 'man, she must spend hours getting it like that every morning'.

I like how when my hair was coloured it seemed easier to manage, even for me with my short back n' sides.

EDIT: MissY_C: no, on about Dizzy's first pic!

Colour coats your hair, makes it all smoothed out. Every time mine is due to be redyed its unmanageable, when its dyed its all lovely again!

If thats what mean it feels like?

Yeah I have somewhat unruly hair, as it's quite thick. When I wash it and it dries it's no good for a day (tends to go soft and flop back down), and when I get up in the morning the sides tend to stick up and look ridiculous. A barber once said it's because I have a 'funny shaped head', and my technique is to comb it with a wet comb and then put an old hat on it to press it down.

Suffice it to say, when I shower and then ride in for an early shift the helmet doesn't do me any favours. When I had it coloured, however, it would basically hold or at least grudgingly comply with however I styled it, which was very nice. Even if to just run my fingers through to push my fringe back up, it would then stay put!
