Don't bother with the M3, come out of winchester on the A3090 towards hursley, that takes you down through Hursley to Romsey, then you can jump straight on the M271 and 3 or 4 miles later you can go along the A35 and your right in the city centre without going through any big patches of low speed limits.

Previous routes I've done:
A30/A31/B road around Eastleigh - OK, there are some **** pounding bumps on the A31 but this was perfectly doable on a scooter and few speed cameras. Plus you can pick up the M3 at pretty much any point if you are running late. A3(M for bits of it)/A27 - fast enough, some nice corners but fairly dull for most the way. Most of the time I was trying to get there quickly rather than having fun, but these routes are both reasonably fast and have at least some challenges. Never found much of a fun road but there must be some interesting B roads etc on the way. Seem to remember A32 (Alton -> Hedge End) wasn't too bad, depends which part of soton you're heading to. MT |
