I would go as far as to say the full fairings actually provide a little too much protection. With the SV1000 getting rid of that extra engine heat is a bit of a problem.

When I was asking similar questions as those in OP, every generally told me to go test ride it - this will be the ultimate deciding factor for you buddy, you'll either love it & buy it, or end up feeling a bit confused towards it since it looks like an sv but it's not anything like you imagined it would be..

With bikes, normally asking a few questions before gives me a basic idea of whether its for me or not. Then I tend to buy them and worry about whether its actually suitable or not afterwards. Bikes are one of the few things in life i let my heart rather than my head make the decision for me.

I've had a few people who've brought bikes to me "I hate this f***ing thing! I really liked it until I bought one..." etc etc.
Then we've sorted the abortion that the previous owners have made of the suspension and all of a sudden they love it... Such pearlers as the GSXR600K2 with what I guess was around a 10-15W fork oil at about a 20mm air gap, an SV1000 with the rear rebound cranked in far enough to damage the needle... Amazing what stuff like that does to your cornering confidence ![]()
