Read article 3 & 5

My son recently had an Ipod replaced using this legislation as Apple's warranty is only 1 year.

Phone sky and cancel your subscription to them. I bet they offer you a new box and better deal. If not then really cancel and get your other half or whoever name the current contract is not in to take out anew subscription.
A few years ago when I was moving house I phoned sky to let them know. The bloke said that as the box I had at the time was out of warranty I should just cancel current contract and when moved into new house set up new contract then I would get a new box with a warranty and a better deal than I was paying. So I did and it worked in my favour.

Seem to have found a temporary fix by doing a planner rebuild. Will still be contacting Sky for a replacement box though.

Daveyrach: Thanks for info regarding EU legislation. Will have a look into this.

Has that helped, because planner rebuild actually does next to f-all. It's just a clean shutdown and reboot.

Do you ever power off your box by unplugging it, or do you leave it on all of the time?

My HD box sometimes has a hissy fit and freezes up, the usual Sky cure is to remove the viewing card & switching it off at the mains for at least 30 sec.

Seems to work, but won't help with a fubarred hard drive
