There's better ones out there for similar money.
You can't get away with not lubing a chain for 70k. It will snap and you'll fall off.

Looks to have a scotoiler thats run dry.
If he's kept up to the scotoiler for x years then its run out of oil and he's run out of love for the bike its easy to see why a chain could get like that very quickly over this last winter.

I'd buy it at £400-£500 if its HPI clear and a runner then yeah I'd buy it but thats because I already have every tool required and I would do all the work myself. I'd be looking at buying:
Front Wheel bearings,
Brake Lines (Unless they're braided I cant tell from the pics),
Fork Seals,
Fork Oil,
Fork Springs,
Head Bearings,
Lower Link Bearings,
zx6r shock,
Rear wheel bearings (sprocket carrier too),
If its an OEM exhaust I'd replace that, if its an aftermarket I'd repack it.
Chain and Sprocket Set
Brake pads all around,
Brake fluid,
Coolant,
and a monster box of stainless bolts to replace every single one on the bike.
Then the normal service items of oil plugs and filters etc along with the major interval items such as valve clearance and throttle body balance.

But only because I can do that all myself, if I couldn't do that work myself then you're looking at spending a fortune having a garage do it and that IMO would be a deal breaker.

Aye I appreciate that, but my point was if he can't be bothered lubing the chain, he can't be bothered changing the oil.

Its even got a Scottolier, so he couldn't even be bothered to top that up?

So what chance of any routine maintenance. Slim or none.

Maybe in its earlier life it was looked after well, which is why its got this far, but he's got bored with it and hasn't bothered. So it'll be a basket case soon?

£300 yes on the chance it has been looked after, but not £500

If it's done 70k and only had the oild changed every 4k (as opposed to the recommended 3.5k) I would be seriously worried that the inside of the engine will be as bad as the outside. For £500 it may be worth a go but you may be looking at much bigger bills later on if you want to keep it running.

I personally change my oil and filter every 2k and regard it as preventative maintenance.

I thought the recommended oil change was every 4.5k. Sounds picky, but it needless significant difference to running cost over that sort of mileage.

Lol.

Mate these engines can last 100k+ getting the living bollox kicked out of them.

If it sounds alright... it be right.

Or maybe you'll end up buying this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjeTq2fShRc

It has a fair amount to be done, id be tempted to go with some of the others and say id pay nearer £350..youve got chain and sprockets, service, mot and bearings and a bloody good clean, and thats gona be a good £300 spent and no doubt there will be plenty more that needs doing

Interesting...personally, I'd call it a waste of money. To do that so often would mean an oil and filter change every 5 or 6 weeks to the tune of around £20-£25.

Considering I've stuck to changes at 4k over the last 5 years/45k miles and the engine is still going strong....I'd suggest your approach is, at the very least costly and most probably ,mechanically flawed.

@Nobbylad, it depends upon your perspective. I don't use the bike for regular commuting and I only do about 2,000 - 3,000 miles a year. Which ever way you look at it, changing the oil more frequently will make the engine last longer and keep it in good condition internally. I typically pay about £35 for 4l of Silkolene and a genuine Suzuki filter which is hardly a king's ransom - barely two tanks of fuel!

100k ... 50 oil changes...£1750

How much good you think it does them running them out of oil for a few seconds after an oil change?
