As the mare said to me today, we have given you upgrades in the past, it is only recently when we have nothing else that we are having to downgrade you. We have had to turn 6 way today. If I had known you were going to refuse this I could have rented it to someone else.
I was stunned. I wish I had thought what I should have said until it popped into my head after she had drove it away. What I said was if you cannot supply what I have asked for have the decency to phone first to offer an alternative. Don't just drop the keys through my letter box. What I should have said was if you book a business class flight, you are please to be upgraded to first. They do not bump you down to economy and still charge for the business ticket. As for use an alternative supplier. Not possible.I work for a multinational where less than 5% are in the UK. They have a single global agreement with Hertz. £23 a day for a Mondao. Enterprise etc cannot come close.

I may have understood this and please correct me if I am wrong, but...
You have cancelled work purely for the fact you have been supplied a car which you believe does not suit your needs?! My god... I live each day knowing how lucky I am to have a job, to have an income, to have the ability to save towards new things like the French doors I am having fitted next months etc. A car has 4 wheels, it gets you from A to B, and at the end of the week/ month you get paid. Get over it. Unbelievable. I understand the complaint with regards to the hire company not fulfilling their part of the deal, but this is for your company to sort out, but for you to turn work down is just not on. Edit: If you were very tall or very fat then I could understand you need a specific car. I have had many hire cars where I was driving to Scotland for months on end and I have been through Kias, Polos, etc etc etc etc and never complained once. Tim - can you not make your own hire car arrangements and then claim it back on expenses ?
I've had similar with our local branch of Hertz. Which our company don't use any more... I think you'd be surprised if another company cant match your rate. IIRC its somewhere in the region of £16 a day for something Focus sized that we get charged and I think thats with Enterprise...

![]() I see where he's coming from... you start with a company car, then that perk gets taken off you "it's ok we'll sort you a suitable hire car" then you get crap. Fine have a whinge. If you're in a position where you have useful skills then don't let them take the p*ss, the attitude "just be glad you've got a job" is fine but that doesn't extend to letting employers walk all over you.

I am actually with Tim on this one. Yes I know its a little bit "First world problem" but that's the thing, we live in the First World so yes it's all going to be first world problems.
And As Tim said in his very original set of posts, its causes him a lot of back pain to drive several hundred miles in a small car. Would I complain if they gave me a Polo instead of a Mondeo, if they charged me the same rate, yes I would, but I'd still use it. Yes I'd be more tired when I got there but that would be all. If doing it would cause me severe pain like that I would refuse. Also if you've spent a career learning skills that are useful and time consuming/hard to learn with an eye to the future of your industry so you stay relevant, why should he "just be glad" He worked hard for that. (I am not in this position by any means) Without people like that we'd all be up **** creek. I am also sick of big companies either when providing a service not upholding their side of the deal. In this case a booking system is not a difficult thing to accomplish. They take the booking for the mondeo from this outlet. Mondeo reg XXX XXXX is marked as "Booked" for those days at the point of hire. If someone walks in and wants to upgrade to that mondeo in the car park "I'm sorry sir that is booked for someone tomorrow". |

Maybe I'm getting mixed up here, but what was wrong with the Leon?
Surely that's got to be in the same class as a focus? |

Yeah, but knowing they are failing to deliver group C and downgrade, I have a dispensation to order group D. So as for a 1.8 Mondao or similar. Get a 1.2 Leon. that is class B, not even the same as a 1.6 Focus group C
Gutless. Put it this way, you pay to rent a blade and they give you a CB500 would you be happy? Yes, they invoice us for what we order, not what we are supplied. Maybe you would gripe a little of it was a GSXR 750. But the CB would make you want to spit your dummy. Still got another car booked for next Tuesday. Again I have asked for a Mondao. So they have a weeks notice to get it right. Last week they had 10 days notice. I won't hold my breath. Although on the booking form I have requested they ensure that the local branch have the correct class available. Eventually they will realise that either get it right or don't bother. As some of you out there have probably realised, I am using the car hire failure as justification to reinstate my company car. Because we get them so cheap, if I don't have to use a car for 3 days a week, it is cheaper to hire. What they don't factor in however is the admin cost of making the request, processing/paying the invoice etc. They simply look at the money leaving the business and not the full picture.

If only those Syrians recently gassed had got the larger sized hire car! They might have been able to fit a dozen or so extra people in and saved their lives.
But the down side is you can get more child soldiers in a larger hire car so they could have attacked more local villages in Rwanada and killed a lot more people. Ah, the pro's and con's of different sized rentals! Makes me lose sleep at night, it really does! Tim, you are in desperate need of a reality calibration. Go and visit the local children's cancer ward, spent a couple of hours there and reassess just how ****** trivial this drivel is. ![]() Last edited by Berlin; 28-08-13 at 07:48 AM. |
