found a rear hugger on fleabay in the states, it's listed as SV650 2003 03 HUGGER BLUE - will it fit my k5 (only reason I ask is because many bolt on accessories are usually listed as 2003 onwards ('98-02' and '03+'). thanks in advance pt6

No it wont.
The K3 is not compatible with anything but K3's The K3 has a higher seat height, and after many people complained, they redesigned the back of the SV, making the K4 onwards lower. To do this they moved the battery down a bit and due to lack of space under the seat, put the toolkit holder under the battery. This means where there is nothing between the wheel and the shock on a K3, the battery box fouls the K3 hugger when put on a K4. It will probably fit, but 1st big bump will crack it

nice one cheers buddy - I need to read up on the changes made each year so I don't have to report back here everytime I find somethin on ebay lol...
also, v quickly, I'm assuming k3 screens should fit all 03 onwards SV's then? Since the rear end changes shouldn't really affect the screen/front end mountings etc? thanks again Quote:

It will physically fit the swingarm, but you have to chop the whole of the toolbox off the bottom of the battery box to give the hugger clearance. I did this with my K5 because I was too pikey to buy a new hugger and liked the shape of my old K3 one. I never used the toolbox thing anyway and it looked ugly.

I fitted a k3 model hugger to my k4 with a bit of fiddling. The tool box has touched but to be honest it has not damaged it. The suspension is standard and i weigh 13 stone and its ok
