Went to my local garage yesterday to do my tyre pressures (?01 SV650S) as you do, first time I?ve done them on my/a bike. But when I got to Sainsbury?s, the rod wouldn?t go on my valve (sounds bad lol) due to the shape of the wheel coupled with the brake discs! Anyone else found this? What do you folks do?
Thanks! |

it can be a bit tricky. but just try a bit harder. it might just be that the sainsbury one is not bike freindly?
i normally use to ones at morrisons where you type in the pressure required |

i check my pressures at home
if you've been riding the pressure will be higher as the air heats up with the tyre, they should be checked when the tyre is cold get yourself a tyre pump that plugs into a car power socket and a good pressure indicator, don't trust the one on the pump

Or get a digital pressure guage from Halfords for about a fiver, key ring size to check your pressure, and pump up with any old pump.

Don't be as lazy as Lone Wolf though ![]() Don't trust the pressure gauges on either petrol station or home pumps, but get yourself a gauge and treat it with respect. Check tyres very regularly. It can save your life! ![]()

Yeah, garage guages are usally always broke or at best poorly calibrated.
The old propeling pencil type guages are good if you want something simple that doesn't need batteries. Eitherway, a wee digital keyring or pencil type from Halfords is better. As for the valve coupler on servicce courts pumps, I've never had an issue, usually I just have to move the wheel slightly and manipulate the hose ( ![]() Cheers On a completely irrelevant note of disbelief, some chav has just popped my off-side side light and had off with the light fixture. ![]() |

I found it quite hard getting the air nozzle over the valve what with the discs getting in the way - you can get a 90 degree attachment for a fiver or less off ebay that you put over the valve leaving it nice and easy to get the air nozzle on.

I can 'just' fit most on... but it's always a pain. I normally end up putting it in a really weird angle to get it to fit!

Easiest way ive found is to position the thing inside the discs (front) and chain/disc (rear) legnth ways towards the nozzle.. just fits.. but to be honest.. im going to buy a footpump because I feel like a right helmet having to do gymnastics to do my tyres at the petrol station haha..
