Default Looking at new lids, which are quiet?

Im looking to buy a new lid next week does anyone know which are the quieter ones? Im currently using a Shark S650 and i dont like it at all i rushed into buying it to get me going but its really noisey at most speeds and i hate the fastener.

Im looking to spend anything up to maybe 300 and i would prefer one with a double D ring fastener i have read that the Shark RSR2 helmets are good and quiet and also the Schuberth S1 but i will need to check how they fit and i think the Schuberth are really expensive.

Any input would be great im just getting more confused looking on tinterweb, simply too much to choose from lol

many thanks

mick

the ones you wear earplugs underneath...

but seriously, buy the one that fits best, as no helmet will insulate you from noise like a set of plugs, and the price difference between the best and worst noisy helmets is going to be far more than a decent set of plugs

helmet to protect your skull

plugs to protect your ears

I really like my new Shoei XR1000 and got it for £200 from helmetcity as opposed to £380 locally (OK it's 2008 model but who cares when you're svaing £180?!?).

It's quieter than my HJC, but presumably only because it's new and the padding is still stiff?

Ear plugs everytime though

If you want a quiet lid stay away from the "race" lids, I.e Arai RX7 Corsair, Shoei X Spirit, basically anything covered in vents and spoilers. My RX7 is really noisy its unbearable over 40mph without plugs in.

Try a few lids on see which fits best, you should get a good lid for your budget, i'd be inclined to try a XR1000 and a set of earplugs TBH...

I bought a Shark S800R a few days ago, and coming from a Caberg V2 I can say it's pretty awesome. It's much quieter, more aerodynamic and lighter too. I paid £165 from Fowlers, it's only about a tenner cheaper from net shops so I thought I may aswell get it straight away.

My suggestion:

1) Find a shop with a good selection of lids
2) Start at the £100 price tag (no BMX crap!)
3) Work your way up, trying 'em on until you find the right fit
4) Check that it's approved and has a double D strap.
5a) Buy helmet
5b) If you don't like the colour, order one in a different shade (pink??).
6) Pause at the till and buy a handful of different earplugs from the big jar

IMO, steps 3,4 and 5 are the important ones. Don't skimp on your helmet and buy the best fit you can find. Remember, you only get one brain and there are no aftermarket alternatives!

Just my thoughts,

Keith.

I find my XR1000 stupidly loud at anything over 70mph
