hi
ive bought myself a K8 SV650S and i want to buy an aftermarket exhaust for it. however i know you can get either slip on exhausts or full systems...whats the differences/advantages/disadvantages? furthermore, ive looked at a few brands e.g. fuel, art, akrapovic, arrow, but im not sure who are the best to choose from? obviously the higher the price the better the quality i assume? or for like yoshimura and the v.pricey brands, are you merely paying for the label? please share your thoughts fanks |

go for something you like the look and sound* of really. Slip on is easiet job and best price wise of course but if money is no object then its shiney shiney labels all the way i guess.
Dont worry about HP gains as its so minimal as to make virtualy no difference. Mines a renegade and it came on the bike so i'm happy with that ![]() *this obviously involves you going to some kind of sv meet and listening to them all as they arrive or leave. Post up your location or look in one of the regional sections that covers you and get along for a bit of a sound test. ![]()

Here's my thoughts (for what they're worth).
The best sounding exhausts are race cans. Unfortunately, they're not legal so you still need your original can to fit at MoT time. If they're really loud they can provide Mr Plod with an excuse to pull you (never a good thing). Most slip on cans are pretty similar to the standard system so don't believe the claims of extra BHP, it's all bull***t. Just pick one that sounds good and looks nice. If you fit a complete new system you may get a few more BHP, especially if you fit a mesh filter too. However, you need to budget for a complete remap of the fuelling system to make the most of your new pipework. Generally it's just not worthwhile, you'd be better off getting a sports bike. In summary, buy a slip-on that looks nice and sounds good if that's what floats your boat. Just accept that it's a purely cosmetic decision. Keith. |

And if you're fitting a slip on yourself, make sure you cut at least 55mm from the weld, not 50mm as may have been the case with pre K8 models. Mine is a K8 and when I cut the pipe, I gave an extra 5mm from the 50mm I'd seen recommended and I'm glad I did as there is a honeycomb insert (cat?) in the pipe which you'd have to cut through if you went closer than 55mm.
