Back south ....

Use the A7 to Hawick and then cut across to the A68, much better road

I'd go down the A701 from Edinburgh which is a cracking road to Moffat, then if you want to do the A686, go down the A74(m) for a bit and either cut off and go along the A69 to Hayden Bridge and down, or come of at Gretna and take the A6071 then A689 and back down.

The A701 is a lovely road. A7 after Galashiels is ****e, and the A68 is pretty dull and full of speed cameras.

Either that or when you get to Moffat on the A701, go back up that A708 road (St Marys Loch) to Selkirk and the A7 again

Longer, but the A708 is great bikers road, just watch it doesn't bite you, it's a bad one for biker deaths.

+1 for St Mary's loch, brilliant twisty roads, and lovely views. Bikers a plenty, cafe at the end of it.

If your head has not been completely fried by the quality of roads you are planning to hit try......

B7076 from Moffat - Abington. Jump of the M74 at junction 15 , jump back on at 13.

B6357 Bonchester Bridge - Newcastleton. Hizzys' old stomping ground aledgedly. (Crossing from A68 - A7)

Fill yer boots!
