Default Stalling at low revs/tickover.

Hi all

My trusting SV 2005 is giving me a bit of trouble. I use it most days to get to work and over the last 2 weeks its started to conk out or turn off at low revs. The worse of it was today when it didnt sound to good from the exhaust. Now I have being meaning to change to spark plugs I have not changed them in a long long time.
Q what do you think is causing my sv to conk out or turn off at low revs. Any ideas.

Would all this rain have anything to do with it. I being driving through some very wet conditions of late.
Any help would be great...

D

Turn your idle up a little until you get to service it.

I run a little higher idle than book as I was getting the odd stall at junctions when cold.

Water in the front spark plug is my guess. Commom problem on the SV.

Good morning all.

Ditto H20 getting to the front plug cap. Stick a new set in, & seal the caps. I prefer Holts damp start for this. It dries to a sort of laquer, & has proven over the years to be highly effective.

Also, if you're bike is out of tune, the cold & damp can exacerbate all sorts of erratic running problems, best get it serviced properly.

Cheers.

Nearly as common as mis-diagnosis

Touch - if your bike is stalling at low revs, check the obvious first. If you're idling at anything below 1200 rpm then that's too slow. I believe the figure in the service manual is between 1350 and 1450 rpm.

Check this before mucking around with spark plugs, caps etc.

I did say it was a guess young William.

Without seeing / hearing a bike I would never ever say "that is definitely the problem". Just offer advice about good places to start. Now get back in your box before I come to the the smoke and slap you about.
