Hello guys!
I have an interesting conundrum i would like clarifying facts to answer but any information would be handy. I got a lovely flat spot in my wheel and i ended up getting a new front wheel. I have an 01 sv650s and on the side my front wheel says j17 x mt3.50 asahi tec 2. Finally got my wheel off and got round to fitting and the new wheel says asahi tec (not 2) after searching on this forum it seems this wheel is a bandit wheel? anyone have anything to say on this matter, if anyone knows for sure that would be great! On my wheel the part of the speedo that is in the wheel has 4 raised notches, on the new wheel it has a raised lip goin all the way round with 2 notches goin down into the wheel. Ill get some pictures. On top of this the new wheels inner diameter inside the bearings is smaller so much so my axle/apindle does not fit. Because of that im sure this is not an sv wheel but is there anyway to swap the innards round? other than this inside it seems they are a perfect match. So because i have terrible pointmaking skills i will summarise! -Is the new wheel a bandit wheel? -are the innards (bearings and speedo) changeable? |

Speedo is cast into wheel. see if it all bolts up OK. I seem to remember bandit forks work in the SV.
If bearings are same ID no need to change.

Cheers for the quick answer. Unfortunately the ID is not the same. In the new wheel the ID is smaller, meaning my axle does not fit.

Measure around cavity for bearings and speedo rotor, see if it is same as your wheel. If it is same except for spindle it should work. IIRC though mk1 bandit is a 110 tyre so check it is still a 3.5" rim.

So you are saying that i would take the wheel and try to fit my larger ID bearings into it instead? Because of course the id would have to be the same on the inside of the bearings as it is on the forks. If thats the case would i take it to a bike shop/garage and get that done or what? seems like a hefty piece of work to me.

To fit some bearings into loose wheel? It is 5 minutes.

Well when i gave it a quick tug whilst i was out there it seemed pretty snug, i guessed it was inteference fit or something like that. So its a beat it out, then beat it in job then? sounds good. Only other point is i will probably need to get another speedo but it would definitely be cheaper than getting a new wheel. If it works ill owe you one. Perhaps next years rideout if i get back on the old beast!

it does but the metal notches (which i assume are read as they pass a sensor as the wheel rotates) are different. One uses 2 notches going in and the other uses 4 notches goin out. Anyway you can think of to get the bearings out there is almost NO lip to catch to beat it out.

If speedo sensor will not work how it's supposed to then you're jiggered. Send wheel back to whoever sold you wrong thing!
