Default luggage question

I have a genuine suzuki topbox and rentec rack for my pointy but unfortunately they dont both fit at once.
so I dont have the luggage capacity i'd like. ie if i want to take a tent then i cant use the topbox, whereas i'd prefer to use the top box rather than rack as its waterproof, lockable etc.
Just wondering if anyone has modded the topbox fittings so it sits behind the bike (allowing use of pillion seat) or modded the rentec rack so it can be fitted while the top box is on...

Failing this i may have to get a givi (or similar) set with topbox and panniers and sell the suzuki topbox and rentec rack.

Answers on a postcard.

Unfortunately as far as I know, the Suzuki box doesnt fit Givi plates....

I bolted a Givi plate to a spare rear seat so on and off within seconds. Also the Rentec rack is good for the tent....

Could you just bolt the box straight onto a spare rear seat (using a plate on the inside to add support). If you wanted to remove the box whilst camping etc, taking another seat or cowl wouldn't be too much hassle.

Where would his pillion then sit??

Other than that its a decent idea for solo riding.

The suzi topbox is good, its waterproof and a decent size. However for a weekend away a sleeping bad takes a lot of space and a tent just will not fit.
The simpilest solution is to find a way for the rentec rack to fit whilst the topbox is on. 2 problems, the fixing point is the same for both and would need modded in some way. Secondly the raised crpss spar of the rentec and the topbox are in the same space.

The second option is to find a way to reinforce / support the rentec and mod it to allow the suzi box to bolt to it. This would alow me to use the topbox with a pillion (handy for days away) and when in cunjunction with soft panniers would allow us the weekend trips that we currently use the soft tailpack and panniers for. However if this option i would like to only mod the rack and not the fitting plate which would allow the removal of the box (better riding whilst away) or the option to use instead of pillion.

confused, I am. Didnt say it woulb be easy.

FGO is that a rentec rack? did you have to cut / remove the raised cross member?

I realise reading this its not easy to picture, i'll try to get a couple of phots when i get the bike back together.

It is a Rentec rack. Nothing was cut or adjusted. Admittedly it is tight getting the key in the box but tbh it's nothing to be concerned about.

This is the underside of the seat. You can see the 4 bolts holding on the plate.

This is the plate/seat in situ.

If you need them, I will try and get some pics of the box and rack fitted together, just to show what room there is..

Which box and plate do you have?

That's tempting as then its just on and off when wanted/needed.

I'm liking....

Is it quite stable and safe?
