Default Awesome BMW!

Finally found a BMW that cleans up.....anybody else watching the Americas Cup on Sky Sports 4. Was away and missed it all when it happened earlier in the month so this is the first time I've managed to see them in action. I grew up racing multihulls but this is something else altogether...incredible!

Terrific boat - pity that Larry Ellison (IMO) is a complete a**h***e who, having been unable to win the cup in open competition, used the courts to ensure that he had every advantage, and finally managed to 'win' the cup !!

I can only hope that he has the decency to organise a proper, full on America's Cup series & that he gets his a** kicked by another team (just like when he tried before) - preferably the Brits - Go TEAM ORIGIN !!

In case you were unaware, here's a link to the Team Origin website

Monohull for me----had boats most of my life till I had a heart op 9 years ago.
I became more aware of the risks [i.e.Being caught out in bad weather] and decided that it wasn't for me any more.I wasn't a coast hopper and 40-50 n miles out is a long way if anything should happen.
Partially responsible for my return to motorbikes and touring in a bigger way.

I agree with Supervox that the racing would have been far more interesting in the old format, with medium size monohulls, but the sheer figures involved around these multihulls made them incredible boats. It's a bit like F1 cars v a Formula Ford race. F1's are exciting simply because of what they are, FF provides more overtakes and borderline moves in a single lap than you get in an entire GP.

I don't think we'll ever see boats like this racing again.

Grew up in NZ. Used to race various things and was sponsored to race Melges and Bull's for a while. Haven't sailed for the past 3-4 years. Takes up almost as much time as biking.

Tell me about it, I'm in one of those "in between" moments when I want to get back into sailing but don't want to give up biking....and I really wouldn't be able to do both properly. Came within an inch of buying an F27 a few weeks ago but saw sense at the last moment, maybe in a couple of years when I'm nearer retirement....

Do it Saw one the other day, they're mean as hell.

You can pick a telstar 27 up for about £5k if you look in the right places.

Very few about but look for a Lazer 27----raced one and you have to reef in a four, amazingly fast for its size and will spank most 32-33-34footers
