Default Very poorly bike!

Hi guys i wonder if anyone here will be able to help me out and shed some knowledge on a problem i have . ill start with the back story,

Tuesday just gone i was riding to work and it was sloshing it down, and i mean to the point i got wet through waterproofs :S. After about 5 or so miles the bike (only for a split second) lost power to the engine as if there was no spark and the power was just lost. anyway couple of miles later this problem popped up again and persisted. i had to stop the bike developed a problem where it would not run with out throttle and sure enough wouldnt start again. through further investigation when i finally got the bike home i found the front cylinder was not firing. i have seen many posts on water on the plugs ect being a major problem so have tried these remedies.

Now with the life story out the way ill explain what ive done. So far i have cleaned the plug and let it dry out and still the problem persisted. so today i bought 2 brand new plugs and behold it started to fire the front cylinder. BUT....

Now the bike has a very frequent Cough, it is backfiring out through the carb and actually forcing the front carb from its seating position, there is still a very strong smell of petrol out of the exhaust.

This is as much as i can really remember from about 10 mins ago :S but if you need any more info ill post up.

Btw my bike is a 99 t reg Suzuki sv650 (mileage only 25k so cant really foresee it being a major engine problem but i could be wrong)

Regards liam

As matter of course I'd clean the carbs out, check the front HT is seated correctly and perhaps even replace the HT leads.

Yes, the leads and coil were going to be my next step. didnt think about cleaning the carbs just for the fact that its firing and putting petrol into the exhaust but itll only take an hour so will give it a try. Also when i first start the bike it runs ok its only after about 10- 15 seconds it starts to cough and backfire, just a bit more info.

regards

Search choke plungers on here.Unlikely to be related to the rain, but a common problem.
