Default I wasn't sure about the SV650....

Bought my pointy SV650s about a month ago. Full time commuter (10 mile round trip) but don't really get to go out.

Worried about my purchase because its my first 'big bike' after 18 months on a 125 Varadero.

It vibrates more, the gear changes annoy me sometimes - combination of lazyness and that 1st > 2nd change (just had a service).

Today I strangled it. Oh my lord....the big numbers come round very fast.

To summarise...it works.

It was, and still is, my first bike, let alone big bike. I love riding mine (it's the better curvy model though) Try to get it out on the open roads and learn how to ride it - There's no substitute for miles.

The gearchange on mine is pretty much perfect now, but that only happened after sorting out the position of the gearlever and spending a few minutes getting the clutch properly set up. If it's really bad then something is wrong, it shouldn't be like that.

I have tried the wife's ZRX1100 and a friends FJ1200 and despite the huge amounts of power and bigger engine size, I still love my little SV more. As my skills as a rider continue to improve, I get more and more satisfaction out of the machine.

Never a truer word - 18 months after my DAS I am still learning (lots, fast, all the time) and it just keeps getting better and better!

Being the naturally cautious type I never really felt comfortable riding hard but over the bank holiday in the peaks I found myself actually keeping pace with my brother, using some oil (for a change!), scrubbing the tyres and getting less than 45mpg! Even sliding around on all the gravel and poo started to get fun.

If it's miles on road there is a substitute, advanced rider course or trackday with instructor, what you will gain in a day might take you months on the road.
Most important upgrade on a bike is the rider.
