Hi folks.
I decided today that im 100% not going to ride on the road anymore. I've been on and off the idea for years now and I think my 675 is best as a track bike. Question is what is the cheapest or most cost effective way to convert your road bike? I'm not sure what il need to keep or sell, the obvious is the fairings and lights to sell but what else? Has anyone done this before? Cheers ![]()

Depends what you mean by cost effective. The smallest outlay is to do nothing at all and use it as is.
You may want to get hold of a cheap fairing either race or Road to keep your plastics nice for resale of the bike in case something happens. If you were going racing the modifications would be determined by the class you were entering but decide what you need to do. 2 sets of wheels for wet and dry conditions can work well, but modern sports tyres are so good that you may just want to fit something like the current pilot powers and not worry about it Jambo Sent without a real keyboard

Hi Jambo,
I'm primarily looking for purely as a track bike i don't have the money for racing but ideally im looking for some low level performance mods and see how i go, but im not to fussed about cosmetics as such but i figured selling the shiny parts eg fairing would buffer the cost? I don't have a clue what tires to use, as this will be my first steps into track only. its all a bit of a learning curve. Il need a paddock set up of some description too ?? all the information ive managed to pry out of people for this is.. " the most important thing is deck chairs.. " lol

Before you do anything to the bike go and do a track day. A standard 675 is just fine as is and provided you have just a little bit of self control you are no more likely to stack it than on the road. If you like the feel of riding on the track have a good poke around the paddock and you'll soon get an idea about what you want/need. If we are talking pure economics you would probably be better off selling your 675 as a road bike and buying a bike that has already been sorted for the track.

Good tyres and well setup suspension should see you most of the way there.
After that, maybe some weight saving (Comes naturally with removing the road stuff) and then ride the wheels off it! |

Im definitely going to keep the bike and i agree it is very capable on the track does anyone recommend any tire manufacturers? the last set i had on it was Bridgestone Bt016's. also the stock suspension should be more than adequate for me I'll have to find someone in the Nottingham area to set it up for me though. one other thing my stock speedo is cream crackered does anyone have any experience in aftermarket versions? ( not that il spend much time looking but is there one anyone can recommend ? cheers guys this is all good stuff

Does the rev counter still work? As you don't need a speedo for the track.
Have you got a good set of 1 piece leathers or a back protector? Take all the road gear off and store it somewhere safe, buy and fit a set of used race fairings. As for tyres id go For a set of Pirelli Diablo supercorsa. You can have someone set up your suspension for you on the day, depending who it is can dictate the price but well worth it. If you ask whoevers doing tyre support they can advise on tyre pressures. Everything else isnt necessary but is nice to have: Spare set of stock levers and clip ons Paddock stands Tyre warmers Tools Jerry can Chairs Extension lead Kettle |

Learn to change your own tyres, buy race scrubs for 20 quid.
I think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be. Have you got a van or trailer already?

T3 boys use supercorsa's so I'd go for those.
You can pick up a cheap race fairing off motoforum. Stick all the road stuff on eBay and job done. Enjoy
